Interesting to note a few more folks masked up in the supermarket today than in recent weeks. When you’re usually the only one, it’s easy to pick up on.

Also: NZ is currently in another wave. Maybe consider reducing your odds of being part of spreading it folks 😷

I mean, obviously my recommendation would be to always mask in the office, regardless of the wider situation tbh. Unless you’re able to mitigate otherwise with an air purifier + nasal spray etc, and the number of different folks you’re exposed in the office is small.

But yeah. It is what it is, folks aren’t taking much consideration any more and they really should 🤦‍♂️😬

Even if it’s subconscious now, it’s all “ah I’m not afraid of Covid it was mild!” And “nobody worries about it anymore” until my asthmatic wheeze goes off 😂

A friend asked me if I was voting by post in the UK election. Nearly 7 years in to living in NZ, and it kinda feels wrong. It’s where I’m from, but it’ll never be ‘home’ again.

@thomasbeagle it’s an opportunity to kick the Tories, and I guess I’d be outweighing an ex-pat-Tory vote.

There’s also my own personal motivation because of how the UK gov’s fecklessness has affected me from afar (first COVID variant was from the UK, and arguably a byproduct of Johnson’s mismanagement, political pressure from the UK contributed to the previous gov’s swerve into a eugenics based approach to the pandemic here)

But yeah, it feels kinda wrong for me somehow

look, i’m obviously one of those crusty, old command-line-first linux guys, but hear me out: you don’t need to be “culturally linux” to use linux. you can just install it and use it and not make it part of your identity.

any of those distros people talk about will work fine, great even, right out of the box: popos, mint, fedora, elementary, zorin. it doesn’t really matter.

So one of the biggest businesses in the world that serves by far the most consumers in the non-smartphone computing department does something incredibly harmful and it seems like the main thing Linux users are picking up from this is "oh neat what a great new recruiting tool!"

@eniko I’d say get an external drive or a secondary internal one, and install Linux to that. Use your computer’s boot options to select which drive on start up.

… and of course, this is where privilege walks through the door and this advice then assumes getting a second drive is affordable/an easy thing for you to do - it might be, but it won’t for everyone, I know ! 😬
