The StackOverflow controversy reminds me of the CDDB/Gracenote situation from, geez, 25 or so years ago. There was no AI, but CDDB:

  • Built a CD recognition database using the work of unpaid volunteers
  • Shared this freely-- for a while
  • Decided that their open-source pledge had been in error
  • Switched to incompatible data formats
  • Sold out to a new owner and started charging for access
  • Filed patents and sued competitors

It's currently property of Nielsen Holdings.

    @schwa At some time it was explained to me that some subcommands print messages to STDERR but nevertheless return 0. The STDERR messages contribute to the error count, but the zero return means they're treated as a success.

    Why they couldn't do something about this was not explained.

    Working on a poster for the upcoming coffee corner in our kitchen. The poster is heavily inspired by one I found online, but I decided to make my own because the original didn't have all the drinks I wanted, it didn't show measurements, and finally, it's an opportunity to exercise my drawing skills 😄
