I've resurrected Vadym Markov's Fakery as Mockery: https://github.com/tonyarnold/Mockery

Not sure what the plan is yet — I'd like to bring it closer to faker.js, but it also feels like there should be a smarter way to maintain and update the bundled sample data.

@tonyarnold@mastodon.social avatar

@RobW yeah, it's just a name. I originally renamed it to Sample Pack, but it isn't as good as Mockery 😀

My kingdom for a true 5K 120Hz+ refresh rate Thunderbolt 4 monitor.

This 60Hz nonsense is hurting my eyes!

tonyarnold,
@tonyarnold@mastodon.social avatar

@mattro I am annoyed by every review pretending that 5K resolution only applies to the horizontal pixels. It's 5120x2880 or gtfo.

@pilky how does that look? Are you running that way now?

Does anyone have a recommendation for a Swift package for generating fake data to inject into my previews/SwiftData store?

tonyarnold,
@tonyarnold@mastodon.social avatar

@sanguish I am looking for something more integrated, so that I can dynamically populate randomised data on each run.

It's 10:40 and I am now ready to open Xcode and do work, after a solid morning of messaging people about the corporately mandated security software on their laptops.

Again, I'm not sure it’s the best use of a principal engineer, but at least I get to have a chat to individuals on the team 🍻

Here’s an open source phenomenon I cannot stand.

You propose a change, and maintainers agree it makes sense. But! This now makes them realize some other, related-but-independent stuff also could be better. So now they want you to expand the PR to fix that other stuff too before they accept.

PR author gives up. Everyone loses.

@pointfreeco your latest article mentions UIBindable and UIBinding — how did you find these? Are they documented somewhere?

tonyarnold,
@tonyarnold@mastodon.social avatar

@roanutil @pointfreeco I can't find information about them anywhere, so you could be right!

tonyarnold,
@tonyarnold@mastodon.social avatar

@pointfreeco @roanutil wonderful! I look forward to it (and porting it to AppKit 😉)

Can we just take a moment to consider that , who for some reason are considered a collection of the “smartest guys in the room” didn’t take into account that you might have two different devices (six years apart) unlocked at the same time, and provided no way to distinguish between them when you want to files, because it doesn't display the device name.

tonyarnold,
@tonyarnold@mastodon.social avatar

@felyashono @metaning that's absolutely Apple's fault. The name is user controlled, so the UI should have affordances for further differentiation. There are numerous options here, including showing the model of the device if the preceding information is identical to another entity.

This is simplicity to the point of damaging the user experience.

Apple's weird hiring practices and insistence on hiring non-remote for their positions is their loss.

They're missing out on some top-shelf developers/comedians.
