Off to the Ottawa Critical Mass ride with @TAV!

Brought my bike into Fosters on Bank street for service this morning and discovered that Fosters is gone.

Quick Cranks (two blocks away at Cooper) took it over and closed the Bank location.

According to a search, Fosters opened at 9. Quick Cranks opens at 10, and I was there at 9:45. Did they open the door when I buzzed? Nope.

So, where in #Ottawa do I get my bike serviced? I live in Lowertown, so I’d like to be close if possible.

Lesson: don't trust search engine summaries. I know this.🤦🏻

Wednesday:
102 seconds of plank
23.3 KM of #Cycling (24°C, Humidex of 30°C)
11 minutes of yoga for runners
30 minutes of HIIT
20 minutes of strength training

Another day of doing the outside portion of my workout first to try and avoid the heat.

Getting home hot and sweaty then having to workout more is not very appealing. 🤔

Need to start building an underground city covered in parkland. Anyone have a spare billion sitting around?

Tuesday:
84 seconds of plank,
Walked @TAV and Sprocket to the dock in the park
7.54km of (20°C, with a Humidex of 24°C)
11 minutes Yoga for runners
20 minutes of HIIT
20 minutes Strength training
10 minutes Mindful Cooldown

Changed the order today as it's already oppressively hot out for me. I’m wrecked by the end of the workouts. Starting with the running really burns me out.

This week trying two days running, one cycling (tomorrow), and two more running. 🤞🏻

Survived the bike out, the meeting, and the ride home, but sweet second-cousin of Cthulhu, it was hot out.

Where's the unsubscribe button for this?

New thing today: Got tail-gated by an ebike rider so I just started slowing down to see what they'd do. People can be strange. 🤷🏻

WTL, to cycling

Forgot to post the weekend's rides;
Saturday: ~53km (watch got paused somehow) on the way back from safety training.
Sunday: 25.6km of #cycling with @TAV.

We were taking part in the boycott of #loblaw / #loblaws for May. Is it continuing, or did it shift to Metro?

Friday:
130 seconds of plank
11 minutes of yoga for runners
20 minutes of HIIT
30 minutes of strength training
23.5 km of #cycling (11°C with a 12 km/hr wind)

Pretty good first workout morning back in civilization, although it was alarmingly sunny out. 🤣

Last day in #AlgonquinPark, started day off with frost and a 0°C stroll through the park; bonus: no mosquitoes at all! I ended up doing a longer loop on my own; half run / half walk, I need to replace my shoes with something with … treads.

On the way home, passing through Eganville, we saw a house with a Trump2024 flag … and a Russian flag 😳 (must be funny there today when they see the news!). Rest of drive back was good until we hit traffic in Ottawa, unloaded, and returned the Communoauto.

Me, coming out of the forest and seeing my unread counter on Mastodon over 200… in a few hours.

Oh no, something bad must have happened.

Nope, something most excellent happened!

WTL, to random

Pretty good last full day in the park, even if I worked a bit.

Spring in Algonquin Park is different from the other times we're usually here (late summer, late fall, late winter). It's very green.

My heart has clearly enjoyed the time "off”.

Finished off the last of the special treat drinks I brought up (Pop Shoppe is a Canadian classic).

As the sun sets on our day, @TAV and I were remarking how amazingly fortunate we both are to be able to take the time off to come up here regularly.

WTL, to random

Perfection. Woke up to it being about 5°C out, so @TAV and I took the opportunity for a slightly longer walk to visit the falls through territory normally firmly controlled by mosquitoes and black flies at this time of year.

WTL, to random

Bit rainy and delightfully cool. Lots of walking in the rain, followed by tea or hot chocolate. Nice relaxing day with @TAV.

Managed sixteen hours here before I had to pull the laptop out to fix something a client broke. We're right on the edge of cell service, so interwebs are s-l-o-w.

WTL, to random

Made it safely up to Algonquin Park. Was pretty windy with some intense rain on the way as we drove, but it's generally over now.

The topic of first concerts we saw came up today and I was floored to realize that today is the thirtieth anniversary of my seeing Pink Floyd in concert at the Big O (Olympic stadium) in Montreal.

What a band to see live. And really set expectations way too high for other concerts.

What was your first concert?

Friday:
119 seconds of plank
11 minutes of yoga for runners
31 minutes of HIIT
20 minutes of strength training
9.1 km of (16°C with wind gusts to 53km/hr)

The “I don't wanna" was extremely strong today for some unknown reason this morning. Once I put my shoes on and got out, it was just wonderful out - went further than I'd planned to. 🤷🏻

Three separate cyclists on the sidewalk (including a big e-bike that was hurtling along) … RIGHT BESIDE THE BIKE LANE. <sighs>

I know other #iOSDev folks here have commented about some strange bugs in AppStore connect - anyone have any help for @wplate?

It’s that moment in Friday evening when I realize I can sleep in until I wake up tomorrow. Aiming for ten hours!

WTL, to running

Friday:
102 seconds of plank
11 minutes of yoga for runners
30 minutes of HIIT
20 minutes of strength training
5.24 km of (17°C, 100% humidity)

Everything up to the run was tough, but fine. The run was best described as suffering in motion. By the time I was done, there was a Humidex of 26°C, and I did not handle it well.

It's mid-May and it's too hot out in the morning. I know this is only going to get worse, short and long term.

Can we please have winter back?

<sighs in digital>

Thursday:

11 minutes of yoga for runners
20 minutes of HIIT
30 minutes of strength training

HITT kicked my butt again this morning. Bike ride was lovely, with the few traffic lights I crossed mostly in my favour.

Contemplating changing my 5-on, 2-off pattern. Thinking I might do 2/1/3/1 or something like that to break up recovery. 🤔🤷🏻

WTL, to running

Wednesday:
93 seconds of plank
11 minutes of yoga for runners
11 and 20 minutes of HIIT
20 minutes of strength training
6.2 km of #running (11°C, light rain, with 17km/hr wind)

Accidentally picked a 10 minute HITT when I meant a 30 minute… so I did two, both of which were hard. 🤣

My running heart rate is up (~146 this run vs ~125-130). I think it’s the workouts beforehand and not completely recovering before the run.

Light rain was nice. I don't mind getting wet. It's like free cooling.

Three scenes all

Tuesday:
122 seconds of plank
11 minutes of yoga for runners
20 minutes of HIIT
30 minutes of strength training
24km of #Cycling (14°C)

Very different today; both the HIIT and strength training felt easier/fun, and the ride was pretty good — and then it started to rain. 🤣 Honestly, it wasn't that bad, I don't mind getting wet. It certainly felt windier than the forecast indicated. 🤷🏻

Sunday: Slept in, went for a bike ride with @TAV, had brunch, did our groceries, biked home, and puttered around for a bit before watching Mean Girls (2004, better than I expected) and Wonder Woman (2017 - re-watch). Not a bad day. Zzzzzz

Saturday: Slept in, puttered around, and timing worked out for me to join the Critical Mass Ride through the city. Came across @jessrawk near the end, so I stopped to catch up.
