Simply putting colored paint on a few ants has let me discover that individual ants have certain spots they like best — Tulip likes to be on the highest point of this branch. If I don’t see her there I get worried. She’s a little camera (light) shy so documenting how often I see her in the same spot has been a challenge. She has preferred this spot for at least a whole month. Here are a few times I caught here there.

Tulip peers around the edge of the branch. She’s a good looking ant.
blurry tulip runs because so turned the light on.
Another shot that at least clearly shows it’s her since all you see is a blurry pink gaster.

Looking forward to setting up my used with next week. Looking for recos for easy syncing, mainly for my and stuff. What have you used that you could recommend? I do have GDrive working well on my Windows machines, so could go that route,, though not familiar with how to do that on linux. Thanks!

Vielen dank schonmal.

It is funny how much my relationship to tofu changed over the time. From not caring at all to I eat raw tofu with bread out of the fridge. Here in Germany smoked tofu is a big thing because it reminds us of bacon when fried in the pan.

Very inspiring reading about #lazyblorg thanks @publicvoit . I think I might put some of my thoughts online. My current plan of action is to just export org files to html and then move them into the directory of the web server. Is there a problem with org modes export to html?

I don’t know who spread the rumor in the west that rice cookers are simply ‘unnecessary single use gadgets for foodies who eat a lot of rice’, I think of them more as ‘versatile device for depressed people with no (emotional, not literal) spoons’

Put rice (don’t even need to wash it), water, place vegetables, meat, tofu, eggs. Add soy sauce. Close the lid. Walk away.

And if you get a nice one: cook rice and eat off the cooker even 3 days later.

Even the cheap ones are so handy.

TheSecondVariation,
@TheSecondVariation@graz.social avatar

My flatmates recently started cooking rice in the pressure cooker and it is just the worst. They think they save energy but I am not even sure thats true.
@skinnylatte

TheSecondVariation,
@TheSecondVariation@graz.social avatar

Interesting, then maybe it is because they use an inset and at the bottom there is all the congee of the rice and it is totally mushy.

Tolle Auswahl!

Vinyl records are very similar to wristwatches. It's an object that is used to provide a thing. The thing it provides is much better provided by other means, and most people who use the object don't even use it for the primary purpose for which is was made.

But it's a beautiful object. It is an implementation and perfection of a technology we don't really need these days, but its manifestation is something we all want to hang on to, because losing it would make the world a worse place.

I personally don't collect vinyl nor watches, but I can fully understand the reason why people want to. And to be honest, I do get tempted to buy the odd record once in a while, even though I don't even own a record player.

TheSecondVariation,
@TheSecondVariation@graz.social avatar

For vinyl records there is another component to me in that they truly record the analog signal and not digitize the sound waves in between.

Still lots to learn but it feels rewarding.

In this video, I'll give you 5 reasons why I think you should learn Scheme this year! Regardless if you are a programming beginner or an expert hacker, there is a lot to be gained from learning this language.

Would love to hear your thoughts!

Macro programming (a thoroughly worked out use case to show the advantages would be splendid), multithreading / multiprocessing in that order. I also wondered whether it is possible to implement aspects of array programming languages?

@daviwil

TheSecondVariation,
@TheSecondVariation@graz.social avatar

Lets say you have a world on a grid and would like to do operations with matrices like multiply them by a scalar, substract (add, divide, multiply) matrices from one another (this is something I very often encounter for games or simulations. Slicing. I remember there was some old SRFI for slicing which I could not get running and was not very convenient but it is a long time ago. 1 / 2

@daviwil

TheSecondVariation,
@TheSecondVariation@graz.social avatar

Maybe one can tell scheme that a list contains only numbers and then you can add a number of lists recursively until a number element has been found.
