@jimmyb Alternately, you can add Adjust Date to the top to set a custom time for dnd to expire. This allows the shortcut to end before the dnd expires.

My M1 iPad Pro is only three years old so I won’t be updating this year but as someone who has chosen the iPad as a primary computer of course I’m interested in where the hardware and OS are going. I post often that I think most Apple pundits are wrong on the iPad most of the time because they want it to be a Mac. It’s not and I hope it never is. @tantramar @dennyhenke Absolutely. I’m all in favor of improving iPadOS. What irks me is the idea that macOS is the goal. Microsoft has been trying to marry the tablet to their desktop interface for 20+ years. It doesn’t work. If it did, it would’ve worked.

@stroughtonsmith Only rumor I’ve read is the “squeeze” gesture, so yes. Pressing the Pencil to the screen can’t work with visionOS, but squeezing it can.

@daringfireball Found a detailed writeup of the new game of anyone’s interested. Incorporates a card game element to change it from a point-based system to a goal-based system. Game is over when the goals are completed. Sounds fun to me.

    Apple Music question:

    Is there a way to quickly switch between two different playlists without losing context?

    I’ve got a drumming playlist and I like to be able to go to it and continue playing from the last song I was playing. And then I’d like to go back to listening to the playlist of music I was playing.

    Again, without losing context.

    Suggestions? There an easy way to do this?

    @davemark If I might play the “there’s an app for that” card, play your drum playlist through another app with access to Apple Music. Apple Classical, for example, plays songs from Apple Music in its own queue, and you can switch between them without losing your place. 9to5Mac has a list of options.

    @jikodesu If you mean personal, none on campus, not even dumb phones. Don’t know the rules for off-hours. Our most secured phones (that are publicly known) recently went on display, not smartphones.

    @AAKL To add to your statement, Microsoft launched Windows Phone 7 on the CE kernel, then switched to NT in WP8. No WP7 phone could update to 8, including their flagship Lumia. Early adopters were stuck. Devs had to rebuild. I was genuinely taken aback because I liked the Windows Phone approach. It was a big swing, which Microsoft took to their own kneecaps.

    That said, I now know no phone maker would pay to install WP when Google was sharing ad money with Android vendors. It was DOA.

    @Iconfactory I don’t think storage usage is working for me. All the other readings look appropriate for what I’m doing, but storage usage is showing ~85%, iPad and iPhone, which is 40/50% higher than what Settings shows.

    @owa Opening PWAs in your browser of choice is what you fought to reverse, and iOS doesn’t launch PWAs in Safari. PWAs are rendered natively in WebKit, which is baked into iOS.

    Hey, #iPhone types:

    My wife and kid and I all have iPhones. Been talking in blue bubbles for years.

    We just spent a week visiting friends in Florida, and got temporary SIM cards with T-Mobile for the week. For that stretch we had green bubbles with each other.

    Why?

    Also, we’re back in Toronto now and swapped back to our native SIM cards and… still green bubbles with each other.

    I don’t care aesthetically or blah, strictly wondering what tech thing has caused this.

    Any insight?

    @reay iMessage is registered to your original phone numbers, shouldn’t have worked with your temp numbers. Don’t know why it doesn’t work when switched back. Maybe the switch turned off iMessage or changed it to an email address. If it were me, I’d check my iMessage and/or account settings (and turn iMessage off and on at least once).

    The bad thing about #iPhone #StolenDeviceProtection for #Uber drivers? I drive the same areas daily. These happen to be in Disney World - a huge place for stolen devices. BUT iPhone lists many hotels/resorts/parks here as "familiar places" in my settings.

    Thus anyone stealing my phone here at those locations are exempt from Stolen Device Protection - and can change my pw with impunity. 😳

    @jann First, they’ll need your passcode to change it. Second, you can hide passcode settings using Screen Time restrictions, which requires an additional PIN. SDP is like an airbag that automatically deploys as needed, while Screen Time restrictions require effort to use.

    In my overkill approach to walking the walk, I’ve enabled Stolen Device Protection, Screen Time restrictions on access to my account and passcode, and automations that lock the screen on my iPhone when Settings is opened and prevent airplane mode from staying on (when away from home). I also took the Settings icon off my Home Screen and excluded it from search. I feel that anyone who might steal my iPhone will smash it out of spite, and that would fair.
