My M1 iPad Pro is only three years old so I won’t be updating this year but as someone who has chosen the iPad as a primary computer of course I’m interested in where the hardware and OS are going. I post often that I think most Apple pundits are wrong on the iPad most of the time because they want it to be a Mac. It’s not and I hope it never is. @dennyhenke Love it, but I dispute this point “[Apple pundits] love the form factor of a tablet but dislike iPadOS because it is not macOS.” If they loved iPads, they wouldn’t want them to be MacBooks.
@Sumocat You may have a point there! I've generally assume that at least some of them like the tablet but not iPadOS but you're probably right that just as many would be happier with a MacBook but with a touch screen and macOS.
@dennyhenke@Sumocat There’s room to accommodate lots of opinions in the gap between what the hardware has long been capable of and the frustrating shortcomings of the OS.
@tantramar@dennyhenke Absolutely. I’m all in favor of improving iPadOS. What irks me is the idea that macOS is the goal. Microsoft has been trying to marry the tablet to their desktop interface for 20+ years. It doesn’t work. If it did, it would’ve worked.
@Sumocat@dennyhenke Yeah; like lots of people, I fell into the trap of trying to make a laptop out of my iPad Pro. I’ve enjoyed it so much more since giving that up and embracing its strengths.
