Struggling to stay off of Facebook lately; SO many of my relatives and old friends use it! Family recently had a hard time getting ahold of me upon the death of a relative. Keep reminding myself - it's hard to justify using a bad platform for a good cause. Strange, strange times, folks. #facebook

RandomAnt,

@stevenray Appreciate it, but I have issues with Instagram as well.

Bob Menendez taking bribes, the Democratic Michigan AG making wildly inappropriate comments about charged fake electors - honestly, what hope is there for holding Trump and Republicans accountable if the so-called "good guys" are also corrupt? Damn, I wish there were multiple viable political parties to keep these jokers in line! #independent #Democrats

I've passed this sign for years, as I've driven over mile after mile of flat, depressing Ohio farmland, and I have to say, yes, #hellisreal and it shows in such bleak areas. Thanks for the warning!

RandomAnt,

@autism101 @actuallyautistic Trust me, I'm like OLD and I still overshare (regularly). I think IDEALLY oversharing would be a good thing. But we live in a strange world. For my part, I overshare, then I delete that ****. No harm done, so far.

"I believe in aristocracy, though - if that is the right word, and if a democrat may use it. Not an aristocracy of power, based upon rank and influence, but an aristocracy of the sensitive, the considerate and the plucky. Its members are to be found in all nations & classes, & all through the ages, and there is a secret understanding between them when they meet. They represent the true human tradition, the one permanent victory of our queer race over cruelty and chaos." #sensitive

Watching Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, a good Marvel production, which is owned by Disney, on ABC, which is owned by Disney, during which there is an EXTENDED gratuitous commercial for American Born Chinese, which is a TV series created for Disney. I wondered why such a recent movie was on network TV - now I know... the rest of the story. Manipulated much?

But who is the dreamer?

The artwork of the return is something I can't get enough of. So many scenes lovingly constructed - iconic scenes in many respects. is a true artist

It's worth switching to Mastodon for the edit feature alone! IDK maybe the bird site allows this now, but for years it was an aggravation. #mastodonrocks

Rationalizing the Trump town hall by suggesting that his supporters are a quiet, unexamined portion of the population ignores that CNN has mentioned Trump supporters more than 22,000 times in the past eight years. https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2023/05/12/trump-supporters-cnn-townhall/

RandomAnt,

@pbump It seems to me it doesn't matter if Trump supporters are a small minority, Republicans and many Republican leaning independents will vote for any GOP nominee over a Democrat. That's what makes it necessary for any nonpartisan news organization to seek real answers from the GOP frontrunner, even if it is Trump.

I deleted a toot in which I expressed anxiety that people would steal my CDs at my garage sale today. Ha! only 3-4 people even bothered to look at them and I only sold a few.
What is wrong with you people?!?
Apparently (I've been told) NOBODY listens to CDs anymore because they're all streaming or Siri-ing or YouTubing. Hell, back in my day...
You know what, forget it - before you know it AI will be telling us all what to listen to anyway. Too much change #futureshock

Confession: I have been on that Other Site for the last few hours talking about Tucker Carlson and Don Lemon because ... well, this is a good example of why I do miss search here. I want to see what people are saying; I want to know the latest reporting; and, yes, I want to quote-tweet NYTimes Pitchbot. Now it's OK if the community of Mastodon decides it doesn't want to be a key place for news but I'd regret that. And I'm not speaking so much as a journalist but as news user.

RandomAnt,

@jeffjarvis
I for one am glad if Mastodon isn't a "key place" for news, since much of what you see on other sites is unvetted or mere speculation (usually driven by an agenda). I'm happy to get most of my news on reliable news sites and save my social media for socialising.

Finally reading Circe by Madelyn Miller. Great takes on some timeless, entertaining Greek myths. There's a lot missing from our education on Greek myths if, like me, you were raised with those tame anthologies published in the 1940s, etc. (for instance, there's much lgbtq+ goings on in the original stories)! Fun read! #Circe #mythology #madelinemiller
