The letter 'T' continues to disappear. Language is evolving before our ears.
Just hearing an #NPR news reader now talking about the verdict released yesterday in "Manha - un" and then she moved on to an update on the "Affordable Care ack."
This must've been what it was like living through the "Great Vowel Shift" in the English language during the 15th/16th century.
Of course, their Internet radio channel selection was much poorer back then.
Before the Wait Wait show started last week in Seattle, I was talking to a couple of folks that worked behind the scenes and there was a mention of the pre-Sandwich Monday era.
I think there are several other eras that can be defined for the show:
The Pre-Peter Sagal Hosting Era
The Pre-Regular Live Tapings at Bank One (later Chase) Auditorium Era

Race and racism are inescapable in this country, unfortunately. Living in Kansas City, a couple years ago I heard this story on our local #NPR station about the man who invented #CashewChicken. He was an #Immigrant from #China who fought during #WW2 in the #USArmy & faced literal #terrorism when he opened a restaurant in #Springfield#Missouri. Not a #War correspondent from #Canada, but interesting nonetheless.
More specifically, nice work Alina Selyukh, who sadly I could not find here on Mastodon. Maybe @NPR can guide her here. Or @csymrl can give her a gentle nudge. #npr
#Trump pledges to 'roll back' Democratic President Joe #Biden’s #gun#regulations put in place by Democratic President Joe #Biden & to fire the #ATF chief during a lengthy rally speech to the #NRA on Sat, during which he accepted the influential group's #endorsement.
I never thought I would say this, but Andrew W.K.'s #NPR Tiny Desk Concert is actually very interesting. It is just him and an electric keyboard. Yes, he is not the most talented pianist in the world, but there are some very interesting piano compositions happening here. Some #ExperimentalMusic, Some even #ClassicalMusic, though when he starts sings his playing becomes much more simple. Still, I think you would be surprised, @classicalpiano. I was.
Discover how this cherished series, aired nationally by #NPR from 1980-1998, secured a new home in the AAPB, ensuring its accessibility for future generations.
This whole Tiny Desk concert by Nile Rodgers + CHIC is great but this remains one of my favorite moments, as Nile Rodgers describing collab w/ Daft Punk gets derailed by the band. It pops back into my mind randomly and I have to give it another listen.
If #journalism went for viewpoint diversity, wouldn't it need to entertain flat earthers etc? So I'll agree that background diversity makes sense, but race and gender and sexual orientation are not enough. We should also want diversity of economic status, education and location etc. You have to try to do it all.
I'd rather there be harder lines drawn between reporting and commentary. Big orgs that try to be neutral for the former, total decentralization for the latter. All funded directly. #NPR
