My new #painting is "Badgers beneath". I hope you like it.

#Badgers don't hibernate, but they do go into a kind of sleepy lethargy enabling them to sleep for days through the worst of the winter weather. Sensible! Here are four badgers, curled up together, safely embraced by the roots of an #oak.

I was experimenting with the properties of 2 #watercolour pigments from Winsor & Newtonthat are new to me: indigo & transparent orange. And this appeared!

"Winter Song" is my new #painting about those bright winter days of lemon and pink skies, when the air is clear and cold, and the #birdsong rings louder than ever.

I've started #painting the big blue wobbly bits on my #handpainted map of the #IslesOfScilly.

I do it as a series of small very wet washes so I can constantly keep an eye on that tricky leading edge.

Watching paint dry is one of my favourite things in the whole world!

I'd only seen two original Audubons before but today I saw 46!

Pic 1: a detail of the heads of the osprey and a fish it's just caught

Pic 2: a detail of an astonishing composition of Northern mockingbirds repelling a rattlesnake from their nest. 👈 This one was worth the price of admission alone.

It's taken me more than a week to plan and compose the #painting I just started this afternoon.

It's a composition of a #seabird colony, imagined from all the boat trips we made on our holidays in Scotland last month.

I've begun with a couple of shags, a pair of eider, and a #puffin. Expect more #puffins as the painting progresses.

New #painting: "Bass Rock gannets rock" of the #birds nesting on the cliffs and doing their thing - sleeping, preening, incubating their eggs, pair bonding, hanging out. Sir David Attenborough described #BassRock as “one of the 12 wildlife wonders of the world”. I would agree, hence the title!

Here's my 1st completed #painting for some weeks: "A Northerly breeze". It shows a northern #gannet floating on the air near its nesting colony at #BassRock, near #NorthBerwick.

We visited Bass Rock last week. It's magical being so close to these huge, glorious seabirds!

I have painted the #gannets in context with choppy waves & cloudy skies & tried to express the effortlessness & speed of just hanging on the breeze.

My new painting "The #GreenMan Brings Spring to Chapel #Meadow" shows the ancient woodland spirit joyously heralding the season of hope and life.

The #arrivalofspring is a kind of #magic, isn't it?

The meadow is now threatened with annihilation from a housing development. So I thought I'd better paint the meadow before it's lost forever.

My painting "The birds bring joy and solace" is finished! It's turned out rather cutesier than expected and bolder too, but it does express what I was trying to say, so that's a result!

Given the driech weather today, the birds on the feeders have brought us significant joy and interest. The flashes of the goldfinches' yellow wings in particular - and today greenfinches, too!

This one I hope to show at my #exhibition for #Oxfordshire #Artweeks in May.

The #starlings that have been gathering every night in #Eynsham, #Oxfordshire, since December are dispersing. 😢

From 23,000+ #birds in mid January, last night my estimate was only 2,500+. I'm going to miss them when they're gone.

Here's a #painting I made of them as they explode out of the roost at #sunrise. It's called "Up, up and away!" I hope you like it.

We've been watching 1000s of #starlings gather, #murmurate &roost every evening in the nearby village of #Eynsham, #Oxfordshire all week.
