Certainly in 100 years of city streets we've figured out this pressing question? Surely?

is the opposite of "nonchalant" having an excess of chalants?

Just so many chalants? Too many, really.

This is my regular reminder to any scale-model kit company: make a kit of the trucks from William Friedkin's "Sorceror" (1977) (now on Criterion Channel) and I will totally buy, like, at least two of each. Maybe more.

running theme in the PBS Frontline doc "The Discord Leaks" is that online high schools in 2020 for COVID sent a whole cohort of young people onto Discord to look for community, and they get pulled into absolutely vile, racist, violent communities.

Regents who vote against the wishes of the legislative majority will be fired, but also our problem on campus is that you can’t speak freely.

I’m at the Iowa Bike Expo with several thousand bike people and a couple dozen breweries. (The breweries know who their customers are.)

A crowded expo hall. A hat in the foreground advertises a gravel event that hasn’t even been announced yet officially.

“Course Media” is not the place to put the media for your course. Neither is “Media Gallery” or “My Media” in the left navbar. Instead of clicking on “My Media,” which does not contain your media, click on “Account” and THEN click on that “My Media,” which does contain your media, unlike the other “My Media,” which does not.

last night I had another near-emergency caused by a Kryptonite U-Lock freezing solid. I had this once before with a previous version of the same lock, but I asked for (and got) a warranty replacement. And the replacement does the same thing. Below 10F and it will SOMETIMES freeze such that the key won't turn the full 180 in the cylinder, just 90. Bring it back inside for a bit, and it turns just fine, like it never had a problem. Both times it has done this, it's really put me in a jam.

The end of the semester means I actually have time to finish a model kit of a practical, everyday commuter bike. Fenders, full chain guard, integrated light, rear rack and briefcase hanger means this is a bike for a commuting worker. The fact that there’s a Chinese model kit of this kind of bike, and I can’t find such a model in the US, is an indication of different transportation cultures.

The very complicated instructions for the assembly of the model kit.

yeah this is a stumper. Kudos to the city attorneys for really seeing a way to redefine what "is" is.

"permitted" but not "intended" means that there's no duty of care on behalf of the city . . . that's what you keep law firms on retainer for.
