🇮🇹🤝🇦🇹 With #ÖBB🇦🇹 #Nightjet 235, the wonderful #Italian🇮🇹 Riviera of Cinque Terre is only a sleep away from #Vienna🇦🇹 and #Munich🇩🇪 (or vice versa). Yesterday's trip was without delay, super smooth & only the heavy rainfall drummed on the wall of the cosy sleeper carriage. Breakfast was served while travelling on the beautiful Semmering Railway. Loved it 😍!

I know mastodon isn't really the self promoting place that the birdsite was......but I am very proud of this achievement! Last week our university (#vetmeduni#vienna) held an international conference on #veterinary#antibiotic use and #AntimicrobialStewardship for almost 100 researchers from all over Europe, USA, Canada, Argentina etc. and I virtually organised it singlehandedly! I had never organised anything like it before, but I did it, everybody loved it and told me how great it was 😁🐮🐷🐴🐶🐱
In 1998, 12 friends in Vienna started an orchestra of unconventional instruments. They figured out how to coax melodies from carrots, leeks and lotus roots and performed at a student festival; as they finished with each "instrument," it was added to a pot of soup on stage. Since then, they've rubbed leeks at the Shanghai Arts Centre, banged pumpkin drums at the Royal Festival Hall in London, and blown pepper horns at the Centre Pompidou in Paris. We enjoy this special 16h #nighttrain-trip to the breathtaking coast of #Italy's Cinqueterre in a DOUBLE sleeper🌜 compartment and already chose our items for the breakfast🥐! Egg noodles with cheese🧀 was our dinner for today 😍!
So, not everything is great about #Vienna. Sometimes, this city messes up large scale projects. But our Hauptbahnhof? We got that shit right. Like, seriously right.

Definitivamente os promotores imobiliários não se tocam em relação ao nível de qualidade de vida deste país. Enquanto isso em Viena de Áustria:
#Housing#Coops#Vienna#Austria: "Gleis 21 is an award-winning, intergenerational co-housing project in Vienna that the residents own, operate and manage collectively. Plant-filled terraces encircle the four-storey building, built almost entirely from wood apart from four central concrete pillars. Unlike a 1970s commune, residents have their own separate apartments as well as access to the communal spaces on the 700 sq m rooftop. There are 38 units in all, including a two-bedroom guest apartment that can be booked for visiting friends and family.
The residents, who range in age from 27 to 72, came up with the concept, raised the money and oversaw the construction of the building. The core group was formed in 2015. By 2017, they had the architect’s plans and the funding in place. The building was completed in 2019 and they all moved in shortly before lockdown. The total cost of the project was almost €10mn. The group found €2mn themselves, the rest came from the bank in the form of a 30-year mortgage and they also received subsidies and a loan from City Hall.
One of the reasons Vienna is repeatedly voted one of the most liveable cities in the world is because its urban planning is centred on the question “is this good for children?” as opposed to “is this good for property developers?"
There are at least two clear reasons why #Vienna is so often voted one of the most liveable cities in the world:
the defining logic of the city is: 'is this good for children' in stead of 'is this good for property developers'?
When awarding planning permission Vienna's planners requires 50% 'affordable housing' in all new urban developments, not the much lower ratios elsewhere.
