One of the more limiting things about Signal is you have to give out your mobile number to everyone. Even if it is a burner, I still don't want to advertise to the world that it's mine.
Was happy to read today that Signal is now beta testing a new username feature.
Where I speak some advantages Signal has over the bigger richer rest of tech:
“We don’t have to be full of shit. We’re not a surveillance company. I’m not trying to pretend Facebook is good. I don’t have to toe a party line that is divorced from reality”
#Threema hat heute einen Blogpost veröffentlicht, der sich mit der Problematik der Google/Apple Push-Dienste auseinandersetzt. Vorbildlich! Von Signal fehlt mir so eine Stellungnahme noch @Mer__edith
@kuketzblog@Mer__edith
What is your favourite #fdroid app? Would be interested if I can discover a few new cool apps, I missed until now. Thank you already for sharing! @fdroid
Happy birthday to #Linux's :debian: #Debian distribution, which was established on this day 30 years ago by Ian Murdock. 🎉 🥳
We're proud to have been available on Debian since the very first version of :vivaldi_red: #VivaldiBrowser. :tony_wee:
WhatsApp will likely set the global standard for messaging interoperability: This is Why and possibly What
The world already has quite a few good open-source, E2EE and secure messaging protocols like XMPP, Signal, MTProto, Wickr, Wire, and more. But none have ended up dominating across messaging apps. Also, there is no defined W3C open standard for messaging, like ...continues
@tallship#SimpleX is also very interesting and free of a fixed user ID, which is a bit different from even Threema. You literally have to share individually to connect.
We can't exchange encrypted mail with people outside Proton - it just sends a link whose password you then need to share through a secure platform like #Matrix, #Briar, #Session, #SimpleX or #Signal. Then why not just send the message on that secure platform in the first place?
Encryption for some is a lost cause.
Encryption for all or it's just another walled garden.
In terms of technological sophistication, #SimpleX is cooler, I agree. But #Signal is the best as it is the easiest to use for ordinary people and very private at the same time. That's its main advantage. You can recommend it to your grandmother and without much explanation she will register herself.
SimpleX Chat (world’s most private?) now connects desktop app with mobile app via quantum resistant protocol
It sounds like a simple thing to do, but SimpleX is not a cloud based hosting, nor does it even have a common profile that anyone can just follow or connect to. Every friend being connected with, receives a unique invite address. There is no e-mail address or ...continues
