so tired of #signal app. How can I criticize it when I’ve never used it I would like to use it. I would like to use it very much. However I don’t own a smart phone. Which means I can’t register a desktop app which intern means I can’t use signal as even trying to create a virtual I machine running, android to download the mobile app to register my desktop app. Which failed. I don’t care how much you improve it until you’re actually inclusive. Signal is not a good app. You might also want to think about who are the people they don’t have access to their own smart phone. Think about other ways for users to register without a smart phone please. (running macos desktop)
the signal company does not like poor people to have access to good cryptography tools. many people who do not have smart phones are not as privileged as western developers.
lack of support for operating systems that are outside of the corporate two (iOS and Android). again lack of diversity makes signal lass available to those outside the mainstream.
Signalapp does not support clients that are not made by signal. again reduces the accessibility to those outside the mainstream.
if you care about secure communications i would think that you would care to have it available for all and not just those with more resources. adding the ability to not need a smartphone to use signal would make it accessible and much more secure. right now the easiest workaround is to borrow some ones smartphone. not so secure.

I keep looking at rust and thinking "Gods it seems to be an awesome language"... Then I read and hear about a lot of hassels moving from C or C++ to rust and never really any massive success stories... are the massive success stories out there? #rustlang#development
@looopTools I am 100% pro #cplusplus and against the hype around #rust, but be fair, Rust has quite some success. Take e.g. #signalapp, which is written in Rust. #Firefox is going to be rewritten in it. In the command line world there are many useful and performant tools like ripgrep which are better than what we had before.

Bei ca.. Minute 36: zumindest das #BSI engagiert sich dafür, dass die gängigen #Messenger wie #Signal, #Threema und Co. untereinander verschlüsselt Nachrichten austauschen sollen.
Wer glaubt, dass - falls sie sich auf einen Standard einigen - diese dann der sicherste von allen sein wird?
Kleines Projekt für den Sonntag Abend: Schreibe Deinen 10 oder 20 wichtigsten WhatsApp-Kontakten, dass Du ab jetzt gern bevorzugt Signal nutzen würdest. Meine Erfahrung ist: Natürlich gibt es vereinzelt Unverständnis, aber man findet auch immer jemanden, der schon längst gerne wechseln wollte und sich nicht zu fragen traute.

So this may be a dumb question, but now that Signal has usernames, can I use the same Signal account on two phones - ie without registering the 2nd phone's own number? #signalapp
Joined the Signal username land grab, got the usual handle. Question arises: Best practices on posting/sharing. At the moment you have to know my phone # to Signal me, but that’s very easy to figure out. So, initially inclined to just post the username. Hmmmmmm…
