Earlier this month, a sudden atmospheric warming event caused the Arctic's polar vortex to reverse its trajectory. The swirling ring of cold air is now spinning in the wrong direction, which has triggered a record-breaking "ozone spike" and could impact global weather patterns...

Dr. Steve Campbell: “Your periodic reminder that less ice at the Arctic is consistent with a weaker jet stream that allows cold air to drift down into the Great Plains.

The frigid temps you’re experiencing happen BECAUSE of a warming planet, not in spite of it.”

Yes, we can still have extreme cold despite #GlobalWarming.

The latest science shows that while cold waves might be decreasing in number, disruptions in the #polarvortex caused by climate change could be making extreme cold periods even colder

Our deep cold stretch has officially broken- Monday was still cold in the morning, up to around -20 mid-afternoon, and into the low-mid teens by midnight, -6C or so by noon today, bit colder in the afternoon. Next couple of days highs near -20C, but that still feels better than highs of -30 and lower!

Yes. It gets entirely too cold when those polar vortex events happen.

This was the most impressive example that I saw though.

My new favorite #memes are the ones coming out of Louisiana in the wake of the #PolarVortex. 😆 Cajun husband says they are very accurate.

(And yes I do think dumb memes are the only acceptable use of AI)

Texas power is holding up, but their "real time pricing" is through the roof again, so basically, you have power but energy producers are making a bundle. https://www.ercot.com/gridmktinfo/dashboards #TXwx #power #grid #energy #PolarVortex

The car is plugged in and according to my phone it started charging at 7:00 a.m.. I need to run out there and crank the heater in hopes that some of that ice will melt. I'm going to need the car, eventually.

joe,

I think that I have it to a point where I could drive it if I needed to? I can't see through the side mirrors but I'm also not sure how to go about thawing those.
