In 2003 I decided that if I was daft enough to limit myself to palaeoart, I should be able to supply clients with 2 and 3D reconstructions. I started with Diplodocus (London NHM), but I never finished it.
2002 wasn't a good year for me financially, so I took on a few non-palaeo projects to keep me going. The biggest commission I received that year was this mural at the West Midland Safari Park, Bewdley, UK.
Happy #FossilFriday!
Today, I'm sharing this illustration of a small #paravian sat on a mossy branch munching away at a giant #kalligrammatid lacewing! Some kalligrammatids had comparatively giant wingspans of 20cm or more, which might have dwarfed small #dinosaurs. #paleoart
In 2002 I was commissioned to do my first ever cover art, for Alan Holman's Fossil Frogs and Toads of North America, published by Indiana University Press. This was an exciting one!
In 2001 I was commissioned by the Creswell Crags Visitor Centre to create a series of paintings illustrating the gorge at different times in the past. I loved this project so much!

I'm sharing something non-planty for this #FossilFriday. Here's a selection of #dinosaurs🦖 and a pterosaur from the Hell Creek Formation, which I designed for a board game a few years ago. I'd like to come back to this project at some point. It was fun! #paleoart#paleontology
Into the year 2001. My old landlady commissioned me to paint some sharks, so I chose two Squalicorax and a Cretoxyrhina eating a juvenile Tylosaurus. I later chose to Photoshop the mother tylosaur into the composition.
Here are the other illustrations from my 2000 Manchester Museum project. They were all painted to fit on the design company's A3 scanner and printed about the size of a door, so all the imperfections were clear to see.
My massive #Wielandiella restoration is finally finished, so here's a taster. I might not post the whole image for a whole, as I'm saving it for something.... #paleobotany#paleoart#plants
Another birdie for #FossilFriday . This time, #Cratoavis cearensis, landing on the fertile stems of a Welwitschiostrobus murili plant, with Welwitschiophyllum brasiliense leaves in the background. This was a tiny bird, less than 15cm long, including its tail streamers. #paleobotany#paleoart#plants
