I don't watch a lot of Marques Brownlee's videos (mostly just because I don't have a lot of time for videos, period) but I'm never disappointed when I do.

That accident of history ended up more meaningful to me: while I am most well-known for Stratechery, I am equally proud of the paid newsletter model — services like Substack were based on Stratechery [...]

I had no idea the link was that explicit. Indeed, the linked interview with Substack founder explicitly says they were inspired by Ben Thompson's Stretchery blog.
As soon as I saw this video on my YouTube feed, I immediately sussed out what was going on despite having not seen the actual video being referred to but only having come across the title.
I lurked at the badsite and saw that I was right. (And I hate that I had to go to the badsite to confirm. 🤷♂️)
It's interesting to see people so upset with Marques Brownlee #mkbhd. Maybe his #FIsker and #Humane video titles contain some hyperbole, but to me those videos point out a real problem with consumerism.
So many people purchase tech based on potential or promised features. Tesla is to blame for a lot of that — maybe Apple to a lesser extent.
If you test drive an #EV, base your purchasing decision on the idea that that car would stay exactly the same until you’re ready to purchase the next one.
I've always thought the "edgy" #Dbrand marketing is childish and pretentious, but it seems they took it up a notch on #Twitter and is currently being somewhat under fire for calling someone, a customer's name as, I quote, "basically Shit Rash" - the customer's name is Bhuwan Chitransh and they were complaining to Dbrand about a skin they purchased.
I say somewhat under fire becos, as often happens with their shenanigans - many overgrown male children will come to their rescue and say shit like "that's just their branding/persona" and that underneath the facade their customer service is excellent and would probably offer the customer they just dissed a free product replacement or the like. Must be nice to be Dbrand to get a "Free Racist" card by their loyal incels.
I have no respect for any content creator who choose to work and even entertain Dbrand's marketing strat that's aimed towards 5 year-old boys honestly, that includes #LTT and #MKBHD.
There's a thing that's really been bugging me this week, following the #Threads news (EU + federation) from a bunch of content creators I really like in the tech sphere. Not only "bugging me", but genuinely making me sad... But first some background:
When discussing which platforms to "invest in" as a business, there's several factors that go into it. I get that you have to make things work, business wise, and «be where the audience is».
I've been so long in Apple land that I listen to the MKBHD podcast and have no idea what the acronym "LTPO" actually stands for. I know it's screen tech because all of the headliner Android devices seems to use it, but that's all. I guess OLED met its match or something? 😅

I didn’t realize this until I watched the #MKBHD review but the new Beats headphones don’t have a branded Apple wireless chip in them. No H1, W1, etc. that all of the recent headphones have had. Evidently they can still fast pair and sync to iCloud but not switch automatically. Super weird. https://youtu.be/IJm3UHjs8-Y
Ok. Ready Player One is the obvious answer. But I think there is actually a lot of Minority Report sprinkled throughout the objective Apple is aiming at.
Can't say I'm in any way excited about Vision Pro. It's tough to bet against Apple in anything -- they'll spend billions trying to create a market -- but I can't imagine any normal people buying it at $3500.
As for what it might look like in 5 years I'm thinking landfill.
