one of my most cherished and irreplaceable retrocomputing devices is my peerless Roland SC-55.
while the MT-32 has been emulated quite well, the SC-55 always lagged behind in emulation - most attempts at it sounded pretty terrible, even using good soundfonts.
(and hauling around my SC-55 + midi & 3.5mm & usb cables just to play games in dosbox was painful)
in comes Nuked-SC55: it is a chip-level emulation project that just nails it.
it took about 30 seconds to build with cmake. i'm now going to try integrating it with dosbox, so i can finally play 90s DOS general midi games! (ultima viii pagan, here i come)
🐍🧪 Python 3.13.0 is due out in October 2024 and work is underway to implement experimental support for PEP 703 "Making the Global Interpreter Lock Optional in CPython".
As the Steering Council noted in their acceptance of the PEP, to succeed it's important to have community support.
I wrote a little guide on how you can help test out the beta in your project, and help us find bugs in CPython:
The macOS installer joins the Windows installer in adding an option to install free-threaded binaries as python3.13t, making it even easier to try it out.
I of course used to use #Adobe big time in my early web days. Once they went subscription, I did annual for a few years then dropped them for Pixelmator Pro (a #MacOs app that I paid a one-time fee for, but paid to update later).
I want to meet the person at #Apple who decided when running #macos updates to allow the progress bar to get to the end and then go back to 0 again. What does “progress bar” mean to you?
Excuse the dirty screen, but this is the 4th time the progress bar has completed, then restarted back at zero. Is something wrong? I don’t know, because Apple has removed all useful information. Can I see a log? None of the log shortcuts work.
You might as well get rid of the progress bar and show a random sequence of numbers going up to 100 and then starting again if the update isn’t over. They convey exactly the same amount of information.
Is there an issue with calendar appts in the latest MacOS/iOS/iPadOS not sending notifications? I have them set for 1hour before each meeting as default, but today... nothing 🤔🙁
Has anyone experience with Hazel for #macOS and knows if the tool can rename PDFs automatically based on their content?
I’m downloading bank statements but they are all called “statement.pdf” and I’d like to rename them automatically based on a specific text string in the PDF.
Bonkers how you can't 3 finger tap an item/link to open it in a new tab on #macOS like you could on #Linux (and #Windows, probably). #Apple forums I was looking into this on all starts with a simple, civilised question and quickly drags into a messy garbage of Apple extremists saying you're stupid for wanting that simple way of opening stuffs in a new tab when you can just either 1) Cmd + Click, 2) 2 finger tap + Open new tab, or 3) Get a mouse - as if those are the same things, when the answer should've been really, "you couldn't".
I see posts calling for folks to write/email/call/smoke signal/wire/semaphore their representatives about the security fuckery of Windows Recall.
I'm more of an "act locally" guy. Email your place of employment's heads of legal and IT stating your concerns, and send them this article. Hell, throw in your local schoolboards and universities to boot.
I don’t really understand what your job is about …
Oh it’s a bit of everything. I code in the blue window, then take notes in the white one, watch the presentation on the small screen, then open the terminal to very serious server admin.
ICYMI, I launched ,,Done’’ yesterday, a minimal #macOS menu bar app dedicated to tracking your completed tasks. Unlike traditional to-do apps, Done focuses on what you’ve already achieved, helping you keep a clear record of your accomplishments.
It’s on Product Hunt today. if you happen to hang out at such places, I’d really love your upvote! 😇
