During a trip to Sapporo this June, we went to the delightful "Nounours Café", two minutes west from Minami-Hiragishi subway station on the Namboku line. They are doing some of the most elaborate "Latte art" that I have ever seen, including customizing the "drawing" with your name. Their sweets are gluten-free and don't use refined sugar, which is another bonus. Hoping to visit again this December during the next Hokkaido trip.
So, @anianimalsmoe has me thinking about my visits to Hokkaido, Japan in the past. One thing I LOVE about Hokkaido is the amazing food - they are super well known for farming and dairy. Hokkaido ice cream, great farm grown vegetables etc.
On one visit we found this super tiny hole in the wall restaurant that had amazing food! 🥘 I think this was from our visit to the city of Sapporo.
Here’s a photo of what I had, and the description from the menu - prices were great, this was about 5 bucks. The vegetables in the bowl had a slimy consistency in common : Natto, I forget the name of the slimy white radish, okra, etc.
I loved the menu description :
“Bowl of sticky and slimy food” 🍲
Maybe I’ll post up some other pics and stories from Hokkaido - I’ve been there in winter when it’s just covered in snow as well as in summer. Very beautiful and amazing part of Japan.
I finally saw Ezo Fuji (Mt Yotei) with my own eyes. Lake Toya is a driving destination, do NOT waste time walking, walking on roads is horrible. The bicycle shop closes super early too, so start early if you prefer that.
On October 14, 2023 Iwaya Inc. a balloon firm from Japan conducted a successful manned flight of their T9-III pressurized capsule to an altitude of 10.669 meters.
The pilot Akito Iwagawa (who is part of the R&D department of Iwaya) became the first person to reach such altitude in a sealed environment above the country.
The flight lasted for 141 minutes for a traveling distance of 73 kilometers from Minami to Homoto in central Hokkaido.
No trip to Sapporo is complete (at least for my wife and me) without a visit to Hokkaido Jingū, the Shinto shrine beautifully located in Maruyama Park. Here is a set of photos taken today. iPhone 15 Pro shots straight out of camera.
