I finally saw Ezo Fuji (Mt Yotei) with my own eyes. Lake Toya is a driving destination, do NOT waste time walking, walking on roads is horrible. The bicycle shop closes super early too, so start early if you prefer that.
So, @anianimalsmoe has me thinking about my visits to Hokkaido, Japan in the past. One thing I LOVE about Hokkaido is the amazing food - they are super well known for farming and dairy. Hokkaido ice cream, great farm grown vegetables etc.
On one visit we found this super tiny hole in the wall restaurant that had amazing food! 🥘 I think this was from our visit to the city of Sapporo.
Here’s a photo of what I had, and the description from the menu - prices were great, this was about 5 bucks. The vegetables in the bowl had a slimy consistency in common : Natto, I forget the name of the slimy white radish, okra, etc.
I loved the menu description :
“Bowl of sticky and slimy food” 🍲
Maybe I’ll post up some other pics and stories from Hokkaido - I’ve been there in winter when it’s just covered in snow as well as in summer. Very beautiful and amazing part of Japan.
I’ve known about strava global heat map for some time but I thought it was a paid only feature and I don’t really feel like paying for just the heat map.
BUT. I decided to check it out today. And even not logged in it’s enough detail for me to make general route decisions!
For instance, the lines on the Hakodate area heat map are basically the only roads through there anyways, so it’s just confirmation to me that people ride them.
It feels like Hokkaido is a location that would normally demand a longer dedicated stay so that multi-day hiking trips to more remote locations become possible.
Also there a various festivities in winter, some of which involve large snow and ice statues.
Reviewing pics from #JapanTrip. Soup Curry Mog Mog lives up to the hype. The spice mix they use is amazing. :meowlove: Travelling to #LakeToya to eat it tho... time consuming.
If you haven't had Soup Curry before, it's kinda like if Japanese curry had a baby with borscht, with additional spices.
