Amazing work once again from Apple's team! I'm particularly stoked about Music Haptics where "the Taptic Engine in iPhone plays taps, textures, and refined vibrations to the audio of the music" - SO cool and important to bring music to everyone!

I'd actually love to hear from actual or folks about what they think of this. It kinda looks gimmicky in a " who asked for this?" kind of way to me, but I'm a person. I don't know if people have been looking for this but I'd really love to learn more :)

To my and followers, is it helpful for me to, for example, put what key or BPM a song is at when describing audio? I'm working on a cute little project in F sharp minor (because it's one of the best keys), and was casually thinking about how I'd describe it.

My husband just gave me a lecture on self advocacy. I apologized for reminding him that yelling at me from upstairs doesn't really work for me (common misunderstanding: Deaf and Hard of Hearing people don't need volume - we need clarity, which is different).

"Don't apologize," he said. "You have every right to ask for clear communication. Those of us who love you, want to accommodate you. And those who don't? Fuck 'em."

Seriously made me a bit teary eyed.

Excited to report on some ASL progress! Last week I watched my first ASL video without needing captions.

Ok, the video was short AND signed by a hearing dad of a deaf daughter...but still! I got it! Even managed to figure out the one sign I had trouble with: it was this daughter's name sign.

Second, I asked my husband to give me a sentence that I would then sign. He gave me this: "I like my tea like I like my men: in a bag, and under water."

And I got it! 😉 😂 😁

Mulla on uusi sohvakamu.

Rosemund is a Matcha Latte drink in a mint and cream mug. The mug has a large mint green stripe. the stripe and the lower half are both cream color. The matcha has a white latte art pattern on top. Rosemund has closed, happy eyes with short lashes, pink blush and a red, smiling mouth.

Rosemund is a hard-of-hearing librarian. Though mischievous 'Mallows sometimes think that means they can chit-chat. Rosemund has a trick up her ear—her hearing aid! With its volume on high, Rosemund is able to hear the faintest turn of a page (the only noise she allows).

So then: iOS can tell if you've been listening to loud audio for long enough to affect your hearing. However, this will be completely off base if you have any kind of hearing loss. So, Apple, if you feel like adding in small tweaks to current features that will make them more usable to more people, add in a hard of hearing mode that either uses more inclusive measuring threshholds, or that allows us to turn off measuring completely.
Yes, headphone notifications are completely turned off. I am really deaf at the moment post failed right ear grommet insertion and my Bose NC700S are almost maxed out when adjusted to my volume and balance needs. If I listen to anything that's even a little bit quiet, I'm stuck. #HardOfHearing #Deaf #DeafBlind #iOS #A11Y #Accessibility #Inclusion #Design

Tell Me That You Love Me 1x09 "Episode 9" ★★★★★★★★☆☆

I love how they presented the (1) reaction against deaf people; and (2) a parent's concern for their beloved child.

It was a very good opening for episode 9.

Another thing. They paid attention to the difference between "hard of hearing" and "deaf"; and they did not use the word "mute".

It's close to me because I have a heart for them since I was a little kid. I even studied the #FilipinoSignLanguage or #FSL in 1995/1996, and they told us this:

"We are not mute. We can speak because we have our own language, just like every human being use languages."

Is there a cool top of the line sleek hearing aid with great software and noise canceling options and it also plays music and sounds amazing with like nine lil microphones and 5 tiny speakers and it looks amazing and stuff?

  1. my mom needs one and I have not been impressed with what others who use them say about them.

  2. if I ever need one I expect it to do all this and more.

What is the state of the art? Does anyone care?

Just signed this petition asking ‘the NHS’ (which hopefully means all four UK health services) to offer brightly coloured hearing aids to d/Deaf and hearing-impaired adults: https://www.change.org/p/audiology-services-nhs-bright-coloured-hearing-aids-for-all-adults-on-nhs

Given that children are offered colourful hearing aids, why do the NHS only offer adults a choice of ugly skin-toned plastic devices?

After waiting a couple of years for a follow-up appointment with an audiologist to try a hearing aid (or two) for my tinnitus, I thought I’d see what sort of things are available – and I wasn’t impressed 😕

When those of us who have impaired vision can choose from a huge range of glasses to suit our personal style, why is there no similar range of choice for hearing aids? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Hoivapuheen käyttö ja vammaiset henkilöt

Heitän seuraavissa postauksissa tilanteita ja omia ajatuksia hoivapuheesta, jota olen itse joutunut kuuntelemaan.

Mikä on hoivapuhe :thinking_hard: 👇

mustikkasoppa,
@mustikkasoppa@mementomori.social avatar

Mun kohdalla hoivapuhe alkoi jo mun ollessani lapsi.

Oralismi kuuluu menneisyyteen.

mariaq,

@SallyStrange @mzedp honestly? I get that’s it’s funny for hearing folks, but for D/deaf/Hard of Hearing folks who rely on captions, substituting different words for profanity is infantalizing and also confusing.

Otherwise I also liked the video

Viittomakielen tulkeista tulikin mieleen eräs äärimmäisen ärsyttävä piirre kuulevista ihmisistä, jota kohtaan harmillisesti silloin tällöin.

Esimerkkitilanne:

Magneetteja on toki viittä (5) eri vahvuutta. Näin ainakin Cochlear Implanteilla. En tiedä miten Medelissä, tai muissa on. Minulla on magneetin vahvuutena 3 (kolmonen).

@Onj I love that you add Basic text #Transcript for your audio clips man, I think everybody should do that if they can to help out our #Deaf and #HardOfHearing friends, and anyone else who can't listen to the audio for whatever reason. But Especially #Blind people as we tend to post a lot of #audio and because so many of us push for #AltText
we could stand to spread some of that awareness around.

So... an #introduction.

I'm Azu 💙

I have been #writing half my life, though I still don't understand the tags people use to define their projects. I know #fantasy, I #write lots of #romance, intended or not, some #mystery...

I love to #read, I'm an avid #reader. I enjoy #detective #series, #thriller, and #paranormal #books. I'm an #ARC and #Beta reader, though I'm having difficulty with my times lately...

I'm #hardofhearing, have been for a little less than half my life and it's consuming all of it. I'm really tired...

I'm trying to learn some #pixelart, wanting to make my character image, and room, and house, and a whole map of a solo #TTRPG I'm playing. I'm not pretty consistent, though. I'm still fighting to understand the isometrics...

I'm new to Mastodon, have been trying to look around the important info, but I can't wrap my head around a lot of it at once, so please take me under your care.

I'm pretty reserved, constantly fighting to share things and be more open, but I really wish to find here a space where I can be myself and meet wonderful potential friends.

I have a more detailed introduction on Tumblr, if someone's interested...

That would be all for now. Thank you for reading 💙

I challenge anyone who's experience here is improved because of image, GIF, video, or audio descriptions to personally thank at least 3 people each week for doing them!
Reminding people that taking the time to do it is making a tangible positive impact and causing others to see the social benefits as well is a great way to encourage them.
