I am an amateur hobbyist coder, with a bit of experience in java/kotlin for android
I'm trying to get into Godot gameDev
If anyone has advice (technical or otherwise) for how to progress from the VERY basics, I am open to hearing it.
I fixed this bug in my code yesterday but I'm sitting here crying laughing about it today. Godot The Game Engine You've Been Waiting For really said with its whole chest, THAT NULL CHECK CAN'T STOP ME BECAUSE I CAN'T READ #indiedev#gamedev#python#godot#godotengine
Hey does any #Linux / #Godot expert know where player preferences are saved for each game? I've created a file "save_data.fly" but I can't find where it has been placed and it does not come up in a system-wide search.
sigh
Could do with some help with Godot
I can't see how to align scene-swapping, collisions, and gridmaps...
I have a Main Scene, that has scene-swap code, and 2 scenes (town, dungeon)
I populate a town gridmap with floor tiles, and a random stairs tile
I then swap out the stairs tile for a stairs scene, that will have collision signal, to tell the Main Scene Switcher to move to Dungeon.
But I can't figure this bit.
Progress
Town Scene proc-gens a grid, including randomly placed stairs tile
Stairs tile is replaced by Stairs Scene
Next: add collider for scene transition to Dungeon
Does anybody has already organized a pipeline to collaborate on a Blender -> Godot project ? I would be interested by feedback/ideas
I am working on one to ease transmission of game assets. Important features will be the possibility to have git repository for both parts, Blender files and Godot project, so I have to manage filepaths not completely in Blender file but partially in a sidecarfile as contributors will each have their relative path. #b3d#blender#blender3d#godotengine#godot

If I recall correctly you lamented the loss of the Unity Scene view while the game is running in the editor. I just found today a button in Godot that does something similar. Not quite the same, but could be useful none the less!
It's called Project Camera Override and can be activated while the game is running.
I can't find any mention of it in the Godot docs, but here is a short GDQuest video on it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HuTKFha8QBs #godot#godotengine#gamedev
This threatened my sanity. Happy with a menu scene and its UI in #Godot, I copied the controls and buttons to a new menu scene. Changed the script in each button & it seems I had to edit each signal too. Then on testing I get buttons linking to the wrong path. I find they've changed their path themselves. Impossible? I re-edit wrong buttons, get them working but other buttons stop working. I edit those, test, some work but others now need re-re-editing. Seems signal related? #gameDev
Was using the camera2d to do the zoom, but font looks waaaay better if you set the scaling under Window (where you can set the resolution) in the project settings.
Is anyone aware of any data abut what kind of @godotengine resources people are looking for? Like some questionnaire about what level of expertise and what kinds of workflows people would like to see more tutorials on, and in what format (video, blog post, podcast, smoke signals, etc)?
Once again I got an hour to do a bit of #GameDev 😃
But all I finished was convert level 3 to 5 from the old #Tiled format to Godot.
I really don't need anything as powerful as Tiled. The build-in tile editor in #Godot is more than enough for my needs. Even tho you can't rotate "scene tiles". yet! 😑
