I tried to report to #GitHub that their social links feature fails to correctly validate #fediverse handles unless they are hosted on a mastodon, and all I got was a link to their community discussions 🙄.
Since Microsoft is big enough to only care about things when there is enough noise, here is a link where you can upvote / make noise. :nes_fire:
Until this is addressed, if you happen to be using any other server type (e.g. #Pleroma, #Akkoma, #Calckey, #Friendica etc), GitHub will not accept your handle as a fediverse social link.
I've added the new #PyPI feature "Trusted Publishers" to the secure #Python package template repository, you can now publish packages without credentials in #GitHub Actions! 📦
Ok #NixOS peeps. I'm currently running NixOS and subscribed to the nixos-22.11 channel. I installed Vivaldi but I'm not on the latest release.
If search Nixpkgs, I see that the latest release on stable is 5.4.2753.47. However, I can see the pull request and merge to update the package to 6.0.2979.15 on the master branch in #Github. Shouldn't I be getting that version when I update my config?
@box464 Very into a "how to get verified wizard idea.
And if you already have a #GitHub, #Medium, #Flipboard or #Gravatar account already, I'll be the wizard could just connect the two and give you a greencheck pretty seamlessly.
This is hilarious. A #Google engineer invented #zx to make command line scripting easier with #NodeJS, because at a certain point #shell scripts get too complicated and you need a Real #Programming Language.
This is exactly #Perl’s use case from thirty-six years ago. But the kids want #JavaScript everywhere and would rather it take more work to convert their ascended #Bash scripts to a vastly different syntax.
I started the #delightful project. It's similar to Awesome project on #Github by Sindre Sorhus, but only curates lists related to #FOSS, #OpenScience and #OpenData resources. If @abundance wants that, they might maintain their own sublist and be part of https://delightful.club that is steadily growing.
An interesting #GitHub... Bug? Feature? Spam vector?
Someone can create a private repo and then mention you in the issues.
You'll get an email notification with the issue contents.
Although you can unsubscribe, you can't report the message as abuse - because you don't have access to the repo!
If your projects pretends to live on #GitHub, but you're making developers contribute via #Gerrit, who hurt you and why aren't you going to therapy instead
The cracks in Microsoft owning GitHub are starting to show. Making a repo private really means “give Microsoft exclusive access to mine and distribute my code via CoPilot”. 😂
The US understands the threat of foreign tech companies/apps gathering data on US citizens and manipulating their behaviour and is looking to ban TikTok.
Dear @EU_Commission, here’s an incomplete list of foreign tech companies/apps gathering data on EU citizens and manipulating their behaviour:
Meta Platforms, Inc. (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, etc.)
Looks so deceptively open to the naive eye, but is a huge trap of walled garden lock-in, esp. with all the stuff that's being added right now to this all-pervasive platform.
#FreeYourCode or otherwise #GiveUpGithub I'd say to all the many governmental institutions in the #EU that are considering it in their - well-meant - efforts to move towards #FOSS. Before the next problem is at your doorstep.
If your #github project uses #stalebot you are being actively hostile to your community and should stop it.
I'm looking at you, #esphome, and the 4 (at least!) identical bugs indicating problems with esp_touch that were all closed by stalebot. Some of them were reproduced and started discussion and debugging before being closed.
Auto-closing is for #support requests, not #bug reports. Bugs don't magically disappear just because you ignore them.
Elon Musk is threatening to end his $44 billion agreement to buy Twitter, accusing the company of refusing to give him information about its spam bot accounts.
#Twitter recently obtained a subpoena compelling #GitHub to provide identifying information on a user who posted portions of the social network's source code, giving the company until April 3 to provide details on user "FreeSpeechEnthusiast".
