What to do with things you do no longer need? Do you want to avoid using #eBay?
Check out the self-hosted flohmarkt (German for flea market) for the job, an ActivityPub-based federated small trade platform. With the active development being less than a year old, you should expect some unfinished touches, though, but it's ready to give it a try!
Whenever I buy a generic product on Amazon or #eBay, I check both sites to make sure I'm not buying from a drop shipper who's merely listing someone else's item at a marked up price and ordering it for you.
I'd do anything I can to avoid supporting a drop shipper, but I finally ran into one situation where it worked out well for both of us. I wanted a specific power adapter. It was listed for $2 more on eBay than it was on Amazon, but I didn't want to pay for shipping so I bought it from eBay from an eBay store that was relatively near me. I was hoping to get it within a few days.
Well, I got it the next day and it came via an Amazon delivery.
I just paid someone $2 for the privilege of using their #Amazon Prime membership to get an item I wanted delivered sooner.
UPDATE: It turns out I paid a $5 premium. My item was listed at different prices. I didn't see the cheaper one.
OK, a quick overview of ecommerce drop shipping arbitrage. It's when someone lists someone else's product listing at a higher price, usually on another marketplace, but not necessarily. There is software to help people manage this and identify good products to target for arbitrage.
I ended up paying a $4-5 premium to get it. The drop shipper probably nets around $2-3 on this sale.
Most examples are more egregious. The markup is often very significant and they usually target cheap confusing goods in hopes you might perceive the higher price to mean a better product.
Who loses here? Usually you and the actual seller even more. People often realize they've been had and will return the item TO THE ORIGINAL MARKETPLACE. The drop shipper loses the sale, but doesn't really suffer.
Journalist Antoinette Lattouf was sacked by the #ABC "after a coordinated campaign by Jewish lawyers over her work on Gaza.
"Lawyers for Israel coordinated an effort to get Lattouf fired, [saying, eg] 'It is important ABC hears not just from individuals..but specifically lawyers so they feel there is an actual legal threat'."
Lattouf cited Human Rights Watch on Israel “using starvation of civilians as a weapon of war in Gaza”
@DrALJONES
We have difficulty taking the ABC seriously these days.
Our (supposed) #nationalBroadcaster is served by #Akamai, a US-multinational that rose to prominence with its partnership with M'Soft in the late 90s.
Akamai serve #ebay, #esty and a lot of large #departmentStores in Australia, and even some #banks. Alongside CloudFlare and Amazon, there are only two banks not being intercepted at the encryption/decryption level.
Note to self.
When listing stuff for sale on #eBay I must remember they will take 14%. They'll also take 14% on the postage.
...and they'll pay no tax to the Australian Government #corporategreed#monopoly
Just bidded and decided to forget it, I was expecting to lose that auction just because that CD is so pursued by collectors. Was a big surprise to see that notification! No one else bidded besides me!
Waiting now! #EBay#CCM#HeavyMetal#CompactDisc#MusicCollector#MusicLover

This is one of the few scarves I have crocheted. They are pretty relaxing to make :3
I'm trying to sell them and my other crocheted stuff on my #ebay .. I've sold a few things on there but I'm getting into the process of adding way more things to my store.
If any of my things interest you check out my (UK based) Ebay store.
