Imagine that you bought three pounds of vegetables, and immediately threw out two before starting to cook with the remaining pound.

Crazy, right?

But something like that is exactly what you do every time you put gas into your 's tank.
cars are that horrifyingly inefficient.

I wrote a thing on cars, and cars.

Is it just me or is #FFMPEG v7 way faster (on #ARM64 at least) when doing multiple things at once? (ie: #nlmeans noise reduction, #crop, then #x265)

I mean these used to take hours and hours on several of my Agatha Christie files (which need noise reduction, crop and encoding). These fly through now at about 30% time reduction per file. Not to mention about 15% smaller size (thanks x265 3.6.x update!)

Check out @PLOSBiology's new collection on "Engineering plants for a changing climate".

You can read more about the rationale behind the collection in our editorial (https://plos.io/3rFfmjQ)

Read on below for a thread with a collection overview.

https://plos.io/3pTSI6U

npariente,

Perspectives call for engineering #photosynthesis to increase carbon capture and increase food production, for using #SyntheticBiology to enhance climate resilience in plants & garnering public support, to consider how the #microbiome of cropland soils could be manipulated to accelerate soil #carboncapture, and for more & better public–private partnerships in #crop research

Lobster,

@shonin
I likes #permaculture, it suits my needs for perms and hair beading, raised #bedding and other #simplified/#joyous #harvesting.

So many #useful #projects from #crop #recycling to #learning by #example. #Urban #farming. Indoor #hydroponics.

For example as our side streets in #London are cleared of central areas (aka side roads. We have #room for #polytunnels and other street #initiatives to feed our need for food, home and #solarcooking etc.

The better world is calling us from the future feature

The loss of forests across Africa has long been documented. But recent studies show that small farmers from Senegal to Ethiopia to Malawi are allowing trees to regenerate on their lands, resulting in improved yields, productive fruit harvests, and a boost for carbon storage. https://e360.yale.edu/features/africa-tree-cover-farmer-managed-natural-regeneration

💧 the is a really cool idea, literally. It's a way of using evaporating seawater to cool and humidify crops 🌱, which can drastically reduce the amount of fresh needed to support the in a desert .

As and scarcity increasingly challenges crop survival over the coming decades, carbon neutral seawater greenhouses will become much more common.
