"I have cochlear implants and I can only buy parts to fix them or upgrade then from 1 #corporation bc of tech exclusivity. upgrades to get new processors for both ears cost $23k & insurance only covers 90% (and it’s “good” insurance)"
So if if a #poor person steals from a #corporation they go to jail. If #corporations in this case #hospitals breaks the law & steals millions from poor people no one goes to jail. This is what passes for #justice in #america
The good news is #Ernst&Young have appointed a #female global chief, the first time one of the global big four #audit firms has been headed by a woman.
But before we get too misty eyed, we should recall that it would not be the first time a #corporation has appointed a woman in times of trouble, partly because eligible men took a step back & partly because the woman is being (potentially) sacrificed.
I wish Janet Truncale well & hope she is not about to be thrown down the 'glass precipice'!
#MANILA, #Philippines – #JeepneyDrivers and operators have until December 31, 2023 to consolidate into a #cooperative or #corporation. If they don’t, they’ll be off the road and out of a job, according to public officials who deliberated on the budget of the Department of Transportation (#DOTr). Currently, around 70% of individual jeepneys have consolidated into cooperatives or corporations.
the Biden administration has announced it will give a legal pass to firms that reveal criminal activities at companies they buy.... in the interests of disclosing illegal corporate activity.
However as #ElizabethWarren rightly argues this will more likely encourage malfeasance, with the promise of being able to wipe the slate clean on a merger.
Indeed, its difficult to see how confession & forgiveness will reduce corporate criminality at all..
Yup, Lloyds Bank CEO Charlie Nunn has 'urged' policy makers not to levy a windfall #tax on #banks profits... presented as the requirement for stability in policy after the chaos of recent times.
Well of course, no #corporation is going to agree that a windfall tax is necessary, but this doesn't really feel likely policy preference & more of a hint of some sort of 'investment strike'... Labour should grin, nod & ignore!
New research (quoted by the FT) suggests that most #stockmarket price movements (around 70%) are related to macroeconomic news, not anything to do with the 'fundamentals' of the #corporation concerned.
So, #financialservices professionals are actually not as interested in the firms they invest in (or advise on) as they are the daily financial news (and specifically fiscal announcements by the Govt.).
Yet more evidence that they're not being paid for expertise, but more for social position...
I know this'll be shitty to complain about but seriously.. Why do people still make #Discord servers when they can use other open solutions like #Matrix or #Revolt? :blobcatglare:
We are supporting yet another big greedy #corporation collecting #data on us, we should be promoting open protocols or services that don't do such a thing
