In Situ is my effort (with several friends) to translate and publish #coop-related books that aren't available in English (or Portuguese, our other working language so far). We've put out a book on the #BAUEN Hotel, and are now working on a large book about Jose Maria Arizimendiarrieta, better known as #Arizmendi, the spiritual founder of the #Mondragon#cooperatives. To read more, and to watch in real time as I iron out the wrinkles, follow @steve.
Today is #CoopsDay, the international day of cooperatives! I happen to work in one: It’s called Village One and we create ethical digital infrastructure with clients who work towards a better world. We started Village One exactly one year ago and it’s been quite the ride since! #Cooperatives#VillageOne#Coops#GameBoyCamera
Completely unexpected email from my private health fund saying they're refunding members for elective and extras not claimed due to pandemic restrictions.
> HBF promised not to financially benefit from the COVID-19 pandemic.
> We promised that if we recorded any savings because members couldn’t use their health cover due to the temporary suspension of elective surgery procedures and Extras services, that this money would be returned to eligible members
I mean it sucks that successive governments have cut back on public health funding, but if you have to / are heavily incentivised to buy private health insurance, then look for a non-profit fund that serves its members. #Cooperatives#CreditUnions
Software requires hours of specialist labour to develop and maintain. If co-ops want Free Code software designed for the specific needs of co-ops, at a range of scales, we're going to need to come up with systems for funding both initial development and ongoing maintenance of co-op software. Fortunately for us, much of the initial development work can be done by customizing off-the-shelf Free Code, which speeds up development and reduces costs.
Dear everybody on #Twitter looking at #Bluesky please please come over to the federated social web first, already proven to work for millions of people without millions of $$ in capital. I'll personally help you get set up please reach out.
@Defiance@Jonathanglick@misc i'm not envisioning anything special technically, although groups and such are interesting.
You would follow individual people on "the basketball server" same as you can follow me at social.coop and i can follow you at SFBA.social, but if you want to say something about #cooperatives you use that hashtag and if i want to follow what's going on in San Francisco i try #SanFrancisco and wow you people are active over there.
"It is the ambition of both Coopéco and Vervîcoop to offer a full range of seasonal, local, organic and fair trade products at a price that remains accessible to as many people as possible. 'Why should these kinds of products be reserved for the upper class or for people with money?,' Stephan Vincent asks. However, to achieve this balancing act, both cooperatives often have to compromise."
Whelp.. I finally made too many hashtags to fit on my profile. I tried to pick the ones most applicable to me, or ones I feel most passionate about for my page, and I'll attach an exhaustive, absurdly long list of hashtags below. It was surprisingly difficult to decide which ones made the cut. Drumroll please:
Does anyone have reading recommendations for the incorporation process of cooperatives or the legal structuring of bylaws in co-ops and multi-stakeholder enterprises?
@LauraRoark
> Does anyone have reading recommendations for the incorporation process of cooperatives
I'm looking for this too. Getting incorporated is on the list for the co-op I'm involved in. I guess it's the sort of thing that varies wildly depending on which country you want to incorporate in? But any generic advice on gotchas to watch out for etc would be great.
