Did you know that can defeat armies?

At the of Taus in 1431, Crusaders under Friedrich I von Hohenzollern numbered 130k.
They were to battle the 50k-strong Hussites.

When the Hussite drew near, they started singing “Ktoz jsu bozi bojovnici” ("Ye Who Are Warriors of God").

Sung with such ardour, a large swath of Catholics fled the field.

The Hussites won.

Here's the song - it starts at 40 seconds in.

Did you know that #AncientRome once tied a man between 2 chariots & ripped him apart?

Mettius Fufetius had promised Rome the assistance of Alba Longa against the Etruscans.

Except that he told the Etruscans that the Albans would desert the Romans.

And then he betrayed both sides by not joining the #battle at all.

Roman #king Tullus Hostilius was pissed!

He took Alba Longa, ordered all Albans to become Romans & executed Mettius.

This killing method was never used in Rome again.

You’d think that by 2023 we would have had it figured out.
I mean, all the old movies and tv shows seemed to believe that at this point we would have flying cars.

It really couldn’t be further from the truth. In a world where we were supposed to have it all, we’ve completely lost the plot. It’s more of a 1984 world than it is a Jetsons world–and that is probably an understatement.

I know we’ve used up all of our luck, and I can see places where it is clear we have faltered. What else is there to do but bide our time waiting for the water wars? Climate change is… climate changing. It’s only a matter of time now, isn’t it?

We’re too far gone.
There’s nothing we can do aside from prepare and brace for impact.

I sighed, closed the old, dusty journal, grabbed my gas mask and supplies, and prepared to head out into the hellscape the world had become.

“You clever girl,” I thought to myself. “You never knew how correct you would turn out to be.”

612 years ago today. The Battle of Harlaw in Aberdeenshire was fought on 24 July 1411. A failed grab for control of much of the Highlands by Donald, 2nd Lord of the Isles, or a more subtle power struggle within the Stewart family? Did you know that the Battle of #Waterloo produced its own line...

...of #teeth?

"Waterloo Teeth" was a term that established itself after the 1815 #battle.
It expanded to all teeth extracted from battlefields.

A single row of teeth cost ~20 guineas (today: £2150) & was taken from both dead & wounded #soldiers. The teeth thieves scavenged at night, pulling front teeth. The origin wasn't off-putting, as it meant the teeth came from young, fit men.

One thief made 50k.

Wow, got the #battle.net launcher running by installing it under #wine with many difficulties then I can run the launcher once installed with #bottles so the login verification shows. You can see where #valve isn't interested.

Also no I'm not buying or playing diablo 4. I bought the diablo 3 upgrade and got all the dlc and diablo 2 resurrected last year when I was still on windows.
