5/11/24 4:36AM. I was clouded out all night and gave up until I saw it cleared and Michael O’Brien posted they’re still going strong in Cape May County (2 hours south of here!) Yes, at this point, I saw them naked eye!

We took a 15 minute drive to the farms nearby to get a more expansive view. I’d love to say “this is what my eyes saw” but it isn’t. I’ve learned the camera really intensifies the color. That said, it was still a thrill, very first time I ever saw #auroraborealis and I hope it may last another night, I know of a high train trestle bridge nearby I’d love to photograph in front of the glow. #pdxtst (Location: off West Union Road just east of North Plains by the Rice Rock Museum.)
#AuroraBorealis visible from #LasVegas? Yes indeed! Okay I may have cheated a little by driving an hour north for darker skies free of traffic but it was totally worth it. Can't wait to catch the #NorthernLights again from further north - it must be an amazing sight.
Also it is great that so many people got a chance to see the #aurora phenomenal tonight thanks to science giving such a great prediction to billions across the planet.

The aurora in California, north of Los Angeles. Away from lights, it was easily visible to the naked eye, with an eerie pink hue. One image is to the south and shows the aurora goes overhead and fades away to the south. Nature's spectacle unfolds as a solar storm supercharges auroras visible from homes across the US, UK, Canada, Germany, Poland, Switzerland, France, Ireland, and other European nations.
All of these are not retouched and taken from the backyard with an iPhone 14 Pro with a 3 second exposure. These colors were not nearly so visible to the naked eye.
It felt so weird coming back in from the cool air and night magic to a stuffy house where even just the hall light being on felt too bright. I wanted to keep the lights off and let my eyes stay large and dark to see the hidden mysteries. I wanted to just stay outside and bathe in the light of the Aurora Borealis.
I feel like it seeped into my bones. I’ve eaten food from the Realm of the Fae.
