Unexpected beauty. This is White Sands National Monument in New Mexico. One of my favorite places, the sand dunes are white as snow. Having traveled 2 days just to photograph the sands, we found it shrouded in smoke from the California fires. Disappointed, I got out my camera, this is what I got. LOVE it!

Perhaps not even for itself alone. But to provide a canopy of deliverance and awakening in the world. A place of refuge. A home. Maybe this is how a tree speaks. Maybe this is what a life is for...
It took several mornings for the ideal weather conditions to materialize, but on this particular morning at the Cape Elizabeth Lighthouse, everything fell into place.
