In der Klasse unserer Tochter ist die Gründung einer Eltern-WhatsApp-Gruppe geplant. Jetzt ist Aufklärung mit Fingerspitzengefühl gefragt. Einerseits will man nicht der Bedenkenträger sein, der das ohnehin schon angekratzte Datenschutzbild weiter beschädigt, andererseits ist die Nutzung von WhatsApp gerade im schulischen Kontext einfach nicht in Ordnung.
Benutzt du noch #WhatsApp? Ich frage, weil ich mal einen Beitrag zur datenschutzfreundlichen Nutzung schreiben wollte. Ja, mehr Datenschutz bei WhatsApp und für die eigenen Kontakte ist wirklich möglich. 😉

Seriously what on earth are the Tories thinking? They are as reliant on these platforms as the rest of us. Do they think that the tech companies are bluffing and that the UK is too important a market to exit? If they do, they could be in for an awful shock.

Die tagesschau erweitert ihr Nachrichten-Angebot: Ab sofort ist sie mit einem eigenen Kanal beim Messenger-Dienst WhatsApp aktiv. Zum Start setzt die tagesschau dort auf Eilmeldungen und Premium-Inhalte wie Hintergründe zu Nachrichten.

Der Facebook-Messenger wird auch interoperabel, möglicherweise auch iMessage.
Anonyme Nutzung der teilnehmenden alternativen Messengerdienste bleibt übrigens möglich, und Daten erhält Whatsapp nur zu den dienstübergreifend verschickten Nachrichten.
Auch wenn Threema und Signal anfangs außen vor bleiben wollen, bin ich zuversichtlich, dass mit der Zeit immer mehr Messengerdienste mitmachen werden, denn Interoperabilität ist die Zukunft und bringt echten Wettbewerb und echte Wahlfreiheit!
WhatsApp kann anonym genutzt werden - besonders interessant für diejenigen, die ihre Identität gegenüber Meta/Facebook schützen wollen und WhatsApp eher »gezwungen« verwenden. 🕵️

One thing the #Fediverse is missing is a #Groups functionality. Public groups, private groups.
So many people have told me: "I can't leave Facebook because my [knitting/school/yoga/…] group only uses #Facebook to communicate. Sub-#Reddits are groups. #Discord are groups. Group chat on #WhatsApp or #FacebookMessenger. We need groups on the Fediverse!

Super excited to announce that you can now use WhatsApp for web without using a QRCode to sign in! Simply select "link with phone number" from web.whatsapp.com and enter your number. You will then see an 8-digit alphanumeric code. Enter this code on the phone under linked devices > add a device > link with phone number and WhatsApp will do the rest!

Over the past year, I stopped using FB/Insta/Twitter/Whatsapp. As a result, my ENTIRE social circle instantly ceased to exist. Friends, family, everyone.
Not a single person was willing to keep in touch without using the mega-apps. Attempts to explain why I left only seemed to infuriate people and paint me as a social pariah.
NEW: WhatsApp will soon make it possible to chat with people who use other messaging apps. It's revealed some more details on how that will work.

— Meta wants people to use the Signal Protocol, but also says other encryption protocols can be used if they can meet WhatsApp's standards
— WhatsApp has been testing with Matrix in recent months, although nothing is agreed yet. Swiss app Threema says it won't become interoperable
So, I'm interested how the implementation of "Perfect Forward Secrecy" in Signal looks like, like does every messages has a different encryption key? or does it change over time like #whatsapp does? I tried to find any official documention of this, sadly did not find anything.
Thats why I'm asking, does anyone of you know smth about this and maybe can provide a link to a official source?

Minderjährige kommen oft via WhatsApp in Klassenchats und Gruppen erstmals mit strafbaren Inhalten in Kontakt. Auch die Bauernproteste (Angriff auf Habeck Fähre) wurden über WhatsApp organisiert.
