PRAXIS FIGHTER X shows pretty well both the chances and limits of following a traditional formula as a single game developer: It is rock solid in any aspect, and even good in some – but within a genre that is so rich of great and colorful games, many of them more experimental in both gameplay and sound, a bit more boldness in design-decisions on every layer might have been better – and ironically this is underlined by the very fact that it does everything it actually does probably as good as one can possibly expect from an underground game production. If you don’t mind the formulaic gameplay the likeable story, the very well polished gameplay, and the overall high quality make it a great pick for underground gaming enthusiasts and shoot ‚em up veterans alike.
Studio Update: A few weeks ago I was soliciting opinions about whether or not to get a Mac Mini to replace my ailing, nearly decade-old PC.
Opinions differed, leaning toward "yes but get more RAM than base model" and I had just about decided not to do it when I stumbled on a good video from a music tech vlogger I really like (video here: https://youtu.be/obkCMxaIIFM) who did exactly what I was thinking and had great results.
Thanks to everyone that offered advice/shared their experience. Extra special thanks to everyone here in Mastodon who bought my old #TTRPG stuff and #DVDs and #Videogame collectibles to fund the extra bits I needed to buy; this would have been a lot more painful if I had to spend "real" money (i.e. money that would otherwise go to feed and house my family) on it.
This week we explore an idyllic Iberian island, take pictures of birds, and rage against the capitalists destroying nature for a short-term profit - all my favourite things!
I’ve had this game for several years, but now that I’m looking at it carefully. I just finished Chapter I and I can say that it is a very engaging story. For those who are a fan of Batman Year One, this game is for you.
Despite the problems it went through, Telltale has always known how to make narrative games of exceptional quality. It’s no different here.
...praised for its tight control, unique and non-linear gameplay and bright presentation, and is often regarded as one of the best titles for the NES. 🤩
