Will start a little series here about me browsing this Club Nintendo issue from July 1995 (Nintendo Power in the US). 📖

I explicitly bought this one recently because I have so fond childhood memories. It must have been one of the few I owned and therefore read endless times. I still remember so much of the content and now I'm excited to refresh these memories.

The cover shows Asterix & Obelix, a PAL exclusive game series. 🐗

The magazine starts with a presentation of Donkey Kong Land. One of the few games in this issue I could actually play by myself because I had a Game Boy and a friend of mine the game. 🐵

I often borrowed it from him and experienced an awesome jump 'n run with cool graphics and a challenging but fun gameplay. It was mindblowing to control the animals shown in this magazine. 🦏

It was my entry in the Donkey Kong series.

Do you have any memories about this game? 🍌

Second article is about Yoshis Island. 🏔️

I remember being overwhelmed by the colorful graphics. I only owned a Game Boy at this time and imagined how much fun it would be to play such a graphically impressing game. Unfortunately my friends didn't own a SNES neither, so it remained an imagination for a long time.

Although you never could play most of the games presented in such magazines even reading the articles and imagine playing it was fun.

@TheRetroSven

I started it offstream a while ago but it's not my kind of gameplay. It's too annoying hunting for Baby Mario when you lost him or have to start over a level because you didn't get enough stars (because you lost Baby Mario 😆 ).
But it's a great game anyways and I would have loved to played it as a kid.

Third entry is about the PAL exclusive cover story game Asterix & Obelix for SNES.

I owned the quite similar Game Boy version at the time and still remember the hard Rugby level shown on these pages. 🏉
I barely made it above this level and remember some kind of snow level afterwards where I was stuck again due to lacking knowledge of the sprint capabilities. 🏔️

Did you play the Game Boy or SNES version and have any memories of the rugby level?

@mforester

Maybe you are confusing with "Asterix" for SNES?

repeatro,
@repeatro@mastodon.social avatar

@mforester

Wow, GG then. I wouldnt even make it through the game nowadays. Infogrames games are so hard

repeatro,
@repeatro@mastodon.social avatar

@mforester

No, whats the Tintin game?

Learning the levels and enemy positions and attacks is the way difficulty was implemented in the games these days I think 😆 If you are looking for a challenge here try some of the other Infogrames titles on SNES: Smurfs, Lucky Luke,...

repeatro,

ah ok, yes i know it but never played

I might have just sped through 2 - Six Golden Coins. 😅
That's been on my replay list for a while and it seemed fitting after Super Mario World. I remember spending hours upon hours with this game as a kid and I was genuinely surprised that I just ran through it in about an hour.
Then again, I was very much "eyes on the price" and didn't look for any secrets.
Still my least favorite Mario on the GameBoy. 🤔

GG 🎉

I really struggled with the last level, Warios castle, when I played through this classic couple of years ago. I had to hard reset every time I died to prevent me from getting game over and start from the very beginning.

Anyone anything good at the moment? I'm still on my PSP kick playing MGS Peace Walker which I think is going to keep me busy for a while. Especially as I'm not great at it 😶.

So happy I picked up a PSP again though. Such a fun console. I maaayyy have also bought Silent Hill Origins. I think that's probably all the games that I definitely want for it, but any suggestions of hidden gems that I should look out for?

repeatro,
@repeatro@mastodon.social avatar

@Hundstrasse

There are so many hidden gems and great ports for PSP 🤩
The Monster Hunter games or early Final Fantasy titles for example 👌

Other changes include faster load times, updated textures, bloom lighting, and 16:9 widescreen support. 📺
The credits system from Corruption was incorporated into the first two games. 🏆

With the exception of the addition of two full motion video opening and ending sequences and new screen-transition effects used for the start and end of battles, the graphics, music and sound are left unchanged from the original. 🎞️
The only notable changes to gameplay involve the correction of a few software bugs from the original and the addition of a new "memo save" feature, allowing players to save to the PlayStation's RAM. 💾

After finishing Triangle Strategy yesterday I already got my next couch gaming title: Disco Elysium. 🔍

It came with a download code for the digital artbook and a small poster. 📘

Heard some rumors about this being one of the best RPGs, story games and gaming experiences of our time. 👍

Someone already played this game and wants to share his or her spoiler free opinion? Are the overwhelming critics justified? 🤔

Back of Disco Elysium - The Final Cut Switch version game case stating: DISCO ELYSIUM - THE FINAL CUT is the definitive edition of the groundbreaking role playing game. You're a detective with a unique skill system at your disposal and a whole city block to carve your path across. Interrogate unforgettable characters, crack murders, or take bribes. Become a hero or an absolute disaster of a human being.

Damn, that sounds great. Thank you.

I read that it needs some time to get into the game and experience the full glory.
Can you confirm that?
