#Meta should just offer people in #Europe (& the rest of the planet) a simple option: either opt in to have your personal information sold to advertisers, or pay a fee to use #Facebook, #Instagram, #WhatsApp & #Threads.
It works for #YouTube (I pay them to avoid ads), as well as other news organizations. It’s really that simple.
Earlier this week, #BusinessInsider reported that according to app analytics firm #Apptopia, Threads now has more daily active users in the #US than #X.
I just realized that #GhostCMS being compatible with #ActivityPub (and possibly #ATProtocol / #Bluesky at a later date) means that it will probably be possible to tag somebody directly in a newsletter post, via their #Mastodon or #Threads profile for instance.
So I want to leave .social for a better server that doesn't federate with Threads, but the ones on the fedipact website either actually do federate with Threads anyway (looking at you mas.to) or they're invite-only. :(
It feels like @zuck is fucking with me. By rolling out federation, #threads becomes THE place for journalists to leave #xitter for. So of course #meta is doing everything possible to discourage conversation about the news there. It will never be the place for community without group functionality, and it won't serve influencers when people can avoid ads and algos but keep their social graph. #AttentionDemocracy
My first impressions with the #Fediverse, #Flipboard and #activitypub. I am still feeling my way around the environment. I am not thrilled about having so many accounts all over the place and it doesn’t seem like they are all connected. I would eventually like to see a seamless connection between my Flipboard magazines, my Flipboard account, my mastodon account and my threads account. I would like to get to a place where I can communicate with my followers and build meaningful #communities
In order for the open social web to happen at scale, lots of companies and apps, big and small, need to adopt #ActivityPub. Threads is the largest player so far to do this and the implications are huge.
Why is #Threads doing this? Is federation just another feature or is it foundational to their entire experience? How is the Threads team thinking about moderation, monetization and privacy in these early days and going forward?
I asked @rklambo and @pcottle, two thoughtful and genuine leaders on the Threads team who joined me on the latest episode of #DotSocial. Check it out on our #PeerTube instance or wherever you get your podcasts.
I've read a few posts recently from people who lament that 1) they miss their Twitter friends and 2) they couldn't convince them to follow them over to here.
I've spent a little more time exploring the other networks lately and I've found my old Twitter gang.
They're on #Threads. A lot of them are still on Twitter, but it looks like they're slowly drifting over to Threads as their platform of choice.
#Threads reminds you after 30 days of sharing to the fediverse that you’re doing it and gives the option to go turn it off if you don’t want it anymore.
