Widespread flash flooding in Fife yesterday. For every 1C the planet’s temperature rises the atmosphere holds 7% more water. This isn’t evenly distributed across the globe. Higher volumes of rain here are extremely likely long term. It’s time to seriously consider region-wide flood planning and decarbonisation of our own lifestyles as well as measures to save our housing. We can’t afford to wait but also Fife can’t solve this problem on its own. #StormGerrit#ClimateDiary
It looks as though we got off lightly in #StormGerrit yesterday. In spite of hat gust to 89mph and the constant gusting in excess of 70mph, only the little greenhouse was destroyed. This has stood up to countless southerly and westerly gales, as it's located to get shelter from those, but all bets were off yesterday.
Miserable weather with storms and lashing rain. Got caught in two road closures. Electricity supply has been cut all day, which also meant no 'phone calls or Internet access.
Power, and thus Internet, now restored, but, still no 'phone calls. I needed to make some online purchases, but, couldn't receive the verification codes by SMS.
UK Met Office: "A yellow warning for strong winds has now come into force for Wales and parts of northwest England so take care if you are out and about" #StormGerrit#wind#UKwx
There is a strange look a British beach town, during a winter storm in those dead days between Xmas and New year gets.. uninspired may be the best way to describe it
That's the little greenhouse pretty much ripped apart. The door, which faces east, as we rarely get strong winds from that direction, stove in and the place ballooned. Just been out to try to stabilise it. Was almost trapped outside as I couldn't get the porch door open. #StormGerrit
#ViewFromTheGate stormy and wet. We have a #powercut and the field is likely to flood again. As long as the house stays dry we’re fine.Having a wood burning stove is always good at moments like this. OH is phoning the grid as we speak. #StormGerrit
A lovely run-walk on St Stephen's Day. I wish I knew it was the calm before the storm. It was cold but pleasant and I walked to the sound of an audiobook.
Today, on the other hand, I woke up to the sound of rain and wind. #StormGerrit has brought quite strong winds.
I was woken up a few times overnight by squally gusts of wind and rain hitting my bedroom window, and once by something nearby in the street migrating to a new location in the wind.
Good morning folks, got a semi decent sleep last night, hurrah. The wind and rain is wild here, already abandoned my plans to pop to the shop, not a hope am I leaving the house today.
Oh well, better do the coffee thing and then maybe the stitchy thing today - or more WoW, see how I feel when the meds kick in.
Have a great day and be safe if you are out and about today.
