This is absolutely outrageous😡. You can argue the safety case for operating #nuclearpower but what is undeniable is despite the #UK having had commercial nuclear since 1956, not one gram of the incredibly lethal waste has been placed in a safe repository. The technical challenges of safe storage are immense, the political challenges even bigger. No community will ever agree.
Until the nuclear cycle can be safely closed (it can't), atomkraft nein danke. #Scotland
A roofline with real character at one of our favourite Scottish castles, Elcho Castle, close to the River Tay a few miles south-east of Perth. The castle is believed to date back to about 1570 and was built by the Wemyss family. More pics and info: https://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/perth/elchocastle/index.html
Scalloway Castle, seen in dramatic light, was built to exercise control over Shetland in 1600. Its surroundings, once sea on three sides, have changed considerably since it was built and it is now right next to Scalloway's busy harbour. Scottish Secretary Alister Jack has called for the introduction of a new Lords “grand committee” to probe Scottish legislation as he criticised “bad governance”.
New video coming tonight, continuing the history of the Galloway Hydro Scheme.
It will cover the building of Clatteringshaws dam and the Glenlee Tunnel, which was the most expensive and dangerous part of the entire construction.
The last video covered the conditions the workforce endured, during the Great Depression, to construct the scheme, and here's a link to it to catch you up!
The views from Connel Bridge have always been great but the new cantilevered walkway really gives an uninterrupted vista. #Scotland#Argyll#Cruachan#LochEtive
The recreated crannog on Loch Tay, at the amazing Scottish Crannog Centre near Kenmore in Perthshire. It has since been sadly destroyed but has been replaced nearby. This is a type of dwelling that 2,500 years ago would have been a common sight across Scotland and Ireland. More pics and info: https://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/kenmore/crannogcentre/index.html
So the Migrant Advisory Committee, after a 14 week investigation has found 'no evidence' of any deliberate abuse of the international student visa scheme;
they're coming here to study.
As the FT delicately puts it:
this has 'placed Prime Minister Rishi Sunak in a bind, forcing him to either confront those on the Conservative right who want it scrapped, or ignore the advisory group'!
Watch this space.... which way he jumps will tell us a lot about the future of the (rump of) the Tory party
Portugal is crushing it: renewables met 91% of Portugal’s electricity needs in the first 4 months this year & have pushed their⚡️prices to a 4 yr low!
Renewables are carrying an increasing % of their electrcity demand in the first 4 months in 2024:
95% April
91% March
88% Feb
81% in Jan
Portugal’s rapid transition is evidence it can be done: renewables are up from 27% in 2005 & 54% in 2017 with their last coal power plant shut down in 2021. #nature#environment#renewables#earth
@renewable_energy#Scotland was generating the equivalent of more than 90% of its energy use back in 2020. Curiously our electricity prices keep going up, and are amongst the highest in the world
I'm sure that has nothing to do with our energy companies being privatised by the UK government
