...him. Well how far could you throw #Bezos who's been building data centers around the world, collecting information on millions and consumers and literally one of to go-to companies in the #West for globally scalable B2B cloud solutions.
But then, some animals are more evil than others, to borrow a bit from #Orwell again. Let's not forget about a forgotten #SciFi movie, #Wargames, which again--you might have guessed it, by #Elmo's former #DarthVader mentor,...
Marla had been a gifted child. She graduated at age 13, got her master's degree at 15 and wrote an already groundbreaking piece as her PhD Thesis when she was 20. That was in the year 2089. ...
B055 and R00t needed over three hours in their virtual lab to sort out and prepare the loot from the heist. Some of the data packets contained encrypted inclusions they had to crack first. Some others were still covered in their virtual objects. Paranoid shit. ...
I just read an unimaginably stupid article asking why #SciFi always envisions a capitalist future and demanding that science fiction must break away from it. My response to that is simple: science fiction IS a critique of #Capitalism It, as a genre, exists in response to capitalism, not divorced from it. Think of every science fiction universe that you have ever fallen in love with: #StarWars#StarTrek#Expanse#Foundation#Dune etc. Almost all of them present a vision of the future either after rejecting capitalism, languishing under it, or exploring the reality of a post-capital fascistic and/or feudal society. Science fiction begs us to grapple with contemporary issues or yearn for a world where those issues do not exist, just as every literary movement has before it. To loudly proclaim that science fiction must cease capitalist critique because it is overplayed is an admission that you do not understand the genre.
Hear me out: The Sixth Element. Korben and Leeloo's half-diety, half-perfect daughter must fight a new generation of Zorg followers. #Movies#Films#SciFi#ScienceFiction
I finally broke down and ordered the Library of America's "The Future is Female." Two volumes of short #scifi stories from the '60s to the '70s, written by women — for just $35. It's a darn good bargain.
If you need me, I'll be out watching the mail box. #bookstodon
#AmReading update: My book club has ended up with an accidental double-feature on gender: The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K Le Guin and Monstrous Regiment by Terry Pratchett.
The MthR Trilogy live improvised recorded performance today for Unpsychology magazine was 💙 so much fun. It’ll be out later this year online as well as a print interview. @bookstadon#writer#scifi
William Gibson's Count Zero (1986/2016), the sequel to Neuromancer, continues the mash up of film noir, hard-boiled fiction & #scifi; you can see why these books have been so influential, not just in the use of 'cyberspace' but also the corrupt #capitalist context in which the plots develop. As usual action shifts between online/offline & swirls around the characters before finally bringing the narrative streams together. Again, excellent! @bookstodon
EPISODE 4 IS OUT! An extended search for the impossible offers Meaney and Llewellyn plenty of time in which to learn more about each other. Listen now! - https://audio.jumpleads.zone/jl1-4-relief/
Check out this awesome fan art of an original Panzer Dragoon dragon and their rider battling an arachnoth! Thanks to He Who Is The Sky (https://www.deviantart.com/atolmazel) for the contribution.
The access tunnel stretched almost a kilometre, 50m below the ground. I could tell it was unpleasant for Angela - that much steel must have been excruciating for her arm, which was twitching uncontrollably as we made our way to the tower. The iron allergies of Alflynd were the other reason these constructions were often underground and away from people.
A half backed mess and lacking lots of basic features for the type, the SOCO deep research lab was finally launched after years of misguided development and budget miscalculations.
But what a hell of hull design!
(1/2) I have migrated to mstdn.games, and so I am writing a new #introduction.
I'm a long-time gamer, my first console being the NES. I was eventually introduced to TTRPGs via Robotech and AD&D 2nd Edition. These days I play mostly retro video games.
Before games were books, and I owe an enormous debt of gratitude to a school librarian who connected me with that wide world of learning.
Finally, thanks @britt and staff for creating this space on the internet! 💙
