In Feb of this year, Mrs IPngNetworks nerdsniped me by saying "if you're so into selfhosting, why not mail?"

Fine. A fully redundant smtp-in, maildrop, smtp-out setup.

A dishwasher tip specifically for those of you in North America:

Your dishwasher expects to be filled with hot water. If it takes more than 15 seconds for the water at your kitchen tap to get hot, your dishwasher may be washing with cold water for much of its cycle.

If your dishwasher seems kinda meh, try running the kitchen tap until it's proper hot and steamy before you start a wash cycle. It may make a huge difference.

arcepi,
@arcepi@mastodon.arcepi.net avatar

@dascandy42 @TechConnectify I guess you're in Europe. If you have a somewhat new dishwasher, check the manual, some allow being connected to the hot water line (mine doesn't say, so I didn't connect it, I don't want to risk melting the inlet electrovalve) Even if you have a condenser nat gas boiler, it is more efficient than resistive heating.

@arcepi@mastodon.arcepi.net avatar

@rg3 @igalia probably not your issue, but I've heard in the past that going from Nvidia to AMD on windows causes problems because of left over files from the Nvidia drivers. I've been running a 6700 XT for a year and couldn't find any instability at all.

Romanian 'femeie' (woman) and 'familie' (family) are doublets: they both stem from Latin 'familiam'.

'Femeie' was inherited from spoken Latin. It underwent the sound changes that turned Latin into Romanian.

'Familie' was borrowed from written Latin.

Number 6 in my series: Romanian doublets!

arcepi,
@arcepi@mastodon.arcepi.net avatar

@yvanspijk seeing this and a different one about this process but in Portuguese? It seems to me that Spanish took words mostly from written latin? I almost recognize the words on the right, but not so much those on the left.

There are now multiple independent sources who have analyzed videos of the night of the Gaza Hospital explosion. I have included three below. They all indicate conclusively that it was a Hamas rocket that misfired and crashed to the ground. It was not an intentional strike by either side. The WSJ video analysis is the best I have seen here:
https://www.wsj.com/video/video-analysis-shows-gaza-hospital-hit-by-failed-rocket-meant-for-israel/120A1C22-BA32-418E-8837-BC4141FEFB00.html

jokibitzer, to random

@arcepi Hi. Regarding yours: selfhoster of e-mail. What do you think about?: https://cfenollosa.com/blog/after-self-hosting-my-email-for-twenty-three-years-i-have-thrown-in-the-towel-the-oligopoly-has-won.html "After self-hosting my email for twenty-three years I have thrown in the towel. The oligopoly has won." I also remember some toots about the same danger for Mastodon / Fediverse. Are there any tags for this two topics? #EmailOligopoly ? #MastodonOligopoly ?

arcepi,
@arcepi@mastodon.arcepi.net avatar

@jokibitzer it's not my experience. At least for now and as far as I know my emails are delivered correctly. The only restriction is that my outgoing SMTP server is hosted on a VPS, so it has a static IP address not in a domestic IP address range.
But it is true that it is an oligopoly and they make it harder and harder to self host every day.

arcepi,
@arcepi@mastodon.arcepi.net avatar

@jokibitzer for me it would be the sensation that the requirements never stop to grow. In the beginning not being an open relay was enough, then DNS, then no dynamic IP ranges, SPF, DMARC, and the list continues growing. They decide unilaterally what they are going to demand next and you can adapt or everything you send will get discarded. And even implementing all the requirements (if they tell you what those are! - sometimes difficult to know) doesn't assure that your email will get delivered.

arcepi,
@arcepi@mastodon.arcepi.net avatar

@jokibitzer you're welcome!
