I have a friend who is most of the way done making an open source app that handles supply chain interactions without centralization. It uses a SSB backend so there aren’t any central servers and it’s not crypto. There’s no angle for him to get rich doing this, it’s just a good idea that he wants to exist in the world. Written in Clojure.
Recorded today on a IC-9700 located in Leeds by G7DCT. Turned the audio into a short 'educational' video for those who never get the chance to see/hear the Aurora. Brings back so many memories of when I was first licensed in the UK. Can't wait to move back to Yorkshire and get another station built out ready for the peak of this cycle!
Sundog found a little lillygo doodads that's an esp32 on a stick with a screen.
Seems like an ideal way to deliver some very simple self hostable web apps as a product. Just add power and follow the on screen prompts to connect it to wifi, right?
@Linux_in_a_Bit@ajroach42 I suspect that works like #SecureScuttleButt (#SSB) and thus assumes you have infinite storage, eventually requiring your entire HDD with no way to trim old data? I was on SSB for a couple of months, using up 2GB of space, before I saw through it and quit...
Sorry, I'm probably being overly cynical, but I've seen too many similar networks built on the same assumptions...
HNY! This evening, just before 4pm PST, we will be on the air doing #SOTA for the New Year UTC rollover. With W7MTB and N7OLE, please work all of us. After 4pm we'll be sharing the station working #SSB and passing the mic around until we are too cold. Hope to get y'all in the log!
what I would really like is having mastodon et al as individual peer to peer instances without any servers at all where I publish atom/activity pub for whatever I like, from "an app" locally. And I'm a volun-peer in a distributed search option to actually really find the good stuff I care about and provide it to others, too. we subscribe to individuals and topics again. I care about people, individuals, areas of interest, topics - not about sites or servers. and you toggle your own privacy model
Jeg må innrømme at jeg ikke syns SSB er optimalt enkle å søke i, rett og slett. Prøver å finne antall beboere i omsorgsboliger i Norge, og finner en gammel artikkel om noe greier, men ikke harde, oppdaterte tall.
Finished up my #POTA today with some #QRP#SSB. Here's one #QSO with Matt #K4CPZ in Florida. Nice catch from Kentucky using 5 watts into a random wire up 29 feet with 28.5 foot radiator and counterpoise. with FT817 and Z817 autotuner
> See, because you need an always-on computer in order to really reliably use #decentralized social media
Bruh. #Usenet, #Fidonet and #UUCP (#UUCPnet) beg to differ (no reason you couldn't use #NNCP for Usenet now if #NNTP isn't your thing).
Is there anything in #ActivityPub that prevents mass surveillance? seems like (most) meta data is shared openly between federated nodes, wouldn't be hard to info mine or index the fediverse, especially if you're a giant corporation or modern intelligence agency.
