"Former #SNP chief executive Peter Murrell charged with embezzlement."
"The matter is active for the purposes of the Contempt of Court Act 1981 and the public are therefore advised to exercise caution if discussing it on social media".
I genuinely wasn't expecting this to happen in Scotland
There isn't a children's GIDS in Wales, so the only way trans kids can be put on puberty blockers in Great Britain now will be to go privately (and they're planning to restrict that in England) or be part of the clinical trial planned for December 2024
From The Times. Isn't it disturbing that the notion of one part of the UK having influence on the Westminster rump is not only a popular theme (in England anyway) but feted by the meeja? An ‘equal member' of the Union my arse.
It just illustrates the need for an Independent Scotland rather than simply a source of natural resources and taxes to London.
“Having already had to deal with soaring food inflation and a brutal Westminster-made cost of living crisis, ordinary Scottish households could see their weekly shop increase further as a result of the Brexit that was forced upon Scotland."
“Consumers in Scotland have paid a heavy toll for the Brexit they didn’t vote for...".
"In my letter... I called upon the UK Government to ban the license of arms exports from the UK to Israel, given the risk of increasing bloodshed caused by Israel’s threat to carry out a ground offensive into Rafah.
“I note that I have yet to receive a response and you have taken no such action, despite the death-toll continuing to increase."
Letter from Humza Yousaf to Rishi Sunak today.
(Ignoring letters from First Ministers is an integral part of the British government's "respect agenda".)
"In my letter to you of 23 February, I called upon the UK Government to ban the license of arms exports from the UK to Israel, given the risk of increasing bloodshed caused by Israel’s threat to carry out a ground offensive into Rafah. I note that I have yet to receive a response and you have taken no such action, despite the death-toll continuing to increase."
Mhairi Black pledged to deliver a "brutally honest" look at politics as she was announced as one of the acts taking to the stage at the Gilded Balloon venue in Edinburgh this summer.
This #FT film about the reluctance of political leaders to talk about #Brexit is well worth watching. No political party, save the #SNP, wants to raise the issues, complexities and possible future direction of our relationship with the #EU for fear that the electorate will demand answers.
In particular #Labour are very likely to form the next UK government, so why should they risk raising the difficult questions?
Listening to Radio Scotland this a.m & their take on the big opinion poll was that it was all obviously correct - except for the bit about the #SNP winning 41 seats. So bought the Sunday Times to look for myself. I’m attaching their seat projection maps & well, you can see for yourself what they project happening in Scotland - and it’s not an SNP wipeout for obvious reasons. Which oddly, none of the commentators can bring themselves to mention #UKOpinionPoll #UKElection2024 #ToryWipeout
Despite stating that an #SNP pro-independence win in the 2021 Holyrood election would give Scots a democratic mandate to hold #indyref2 Starmer subsequently swivelled, stating that in effect he would block another #ScottishIndependence referendum "forever".
I wouldn't trust #Captain_UTurn or his fellow flag-shagging wannabe Thatcherites with a bag of marbles.
I saw someone saying if the UK had PR 20% of our MPs would be from far right parties. That’s probably correct, but I’d prefer that to the current situation where it’s over 50%
"[BBC Radio Scotland presenter and notorious Unionist] Kaye Adams has been criticised for reading out a listener’s comment that compared an #SNP political slogan to the Nazi genocide of Jews during the Second World War."
This is the shite we have to put up with from the gutless dishonest 'public service broadcaster' we have to subsidise, that's in thrall to the Conservative Party and the Anglo-British nationalist Establishment.
"Who decides what is and what is not an acceptable opinion? Undoubtedly, Michael Gove would count among his British values support for the Union under the crown. I support neither – does that make my values less respectable than his?"
"Any functioning democracy must have a way to register and adjust to public opinion and desire, a dynamic relationship which allows for policy change. This one only has denial."
"There appear to be a number of things happening in [Westminster] just now which seem to be limiting the options for us as a third party but also for smaller parties to be able to voice their opinions and show our discontent when we’re not happy....
“We are looking at them very closely. We need to have the ability to be heard.”
"The old Watergate adage of “follow the money” may at last be shedding some media light on Starmer’s political ascendancy."
"... there is every reason to believe that come the election another pathological liar will waltz into Downing Street practically unchallenged, to the cost of us all."
This report is from November 2023. So far #Captain_UTurn has still not been challenged by any "serious journalist" and is on course for 10 Downing Street.
"... despite the iron grip Starmer has... established over the party... through rule changes, purges, and dictatorial party management, he is still roundly defeated in conference votes over substantive policy matters and has to resort to the age-old Labour leadership method of bureaucratically outmanoeuvring or simply ignoring any outbreaks of party democracy."
➡️ Remember the #SNP opposition day motion on an immediate ceasefire in #Gaza. Starmer simply ignores Scotland.
Fears for future of Gaelic language as community workers’ jobs under threat
#Gaelic-language campaigners and MSPs have protested furiously about plans to axe a network of Gaelic community workers, raising fresh fears about the survival of the language.
Up to 27 Gaelic development workers based in Hebridean islands, rural counties and Scotland’s major cities are being laid off after the government cut funding to Bòrd na #Gàidhlig (BnG), the body charged with protecting and reviving Gaelic.
