When asked why the Govt's childcare support is not available to those earning over £100k, Hunt remarked, 'I am aware that it is not huge salary in our area if you have a mortgage to pay'!
If he thinks, it must be difficult to cope on £100k, wait 'til he finds out some people earn the average salary in the UK, currently around a third of that (at around £34k)....
A proper country would know when their general election would be now so they can make plans.
We are not a proper country, we are a pantomime run for posh clowns detached from the real world.
"Please sir, can we have an election, pleeeaasseee Sir!"
"The English councils’ current financial gap [is] about £4bn a year, which could have been filled more than twice over by the money #JeremyHunt used for that...cut in #NationalInsurance. He seems to still think that councils must sink or swim:...he & his allies in the rightwing press have reprised old and stupid rhetoric about millions supposedly being wasted on “consultants” and “diversity schemes”."
I see rich 'non doms' are angry at Jeremey Hunt stealing Labour's policy to end the tax break... and some are now threatening to leave the county.
To my mind this is a bit like squatters complaining to a landlord that the imposition of rent means they will leave & find somewhere else to live...
I say good riddance to them if they don't want to contribute taxes to the maintenance of a country that due to their malign influence is falling apart.
Taking my preferred measure for #economic activity/growth, the UK has been in #recession for over a year... no wonder people are less optimistic about the UK economy than #RishiuSunak & #JeremyHunt keep telling us we should be.
The shape of #austerity:
real terms reductions in both day-to-day spending & capital expenditure;
no system can survive without damage under such circumstances, and the #Tories (starting with Osborne) did not expect the #publicsector to;
this is an exercise in long-term wrecking, passed off as prudence.
And we can expect #JeremyHunt to carry out one last act of attrition in the budget - making the next Govt's job that much more difficult... its so clearly a scorched earth strategy!
The FT encourages #JeremyHunt to be responsible & think of the national interest...
'The temptation may be to scupper the finances for any incoming Labour administration. For the sake of the country — not to mention Hunt & his party — the chancellor should deliver a Budget that he himself would be happy to build upon in a year’s time'.
Sadly the FT editors have let hope triumph over experience (of the #Tories).
As we head towards #JeremyHunt's second budget, BBC Verify have had a go at marking his homework from the first budget... unsurprisingly, its a mixed picture.
#JeremyHunt & his team have spent the last week flying kites about possible #taxcuts in the #budget, while also warning that the its is a 'long path' to cutting the UK's record overall tax burden.
This looks like an exercise in trying to confuse voters into thinking he's taking all the steps mentioned, while reassuring 'markets' (in the way of the Truss budge) that he's not going to take them really.
It suggests (as ever) that a #Tory budget's optics are very different to its actual effects!
The crisis of state #enforcedpoverty (prev. the #costoflivingcrisis) has a very clear #health & #nutrition element... a new report suggests around 15% of UK households are experiencing period of hunger... which is having health effects (being picked up by the #NHS).
And yet, #JeremyHunt is 'considering' further #austerity including #benefits cuts.... it now longer seems extreme or exaggerated to see #Tory politics of the last decade as an extended #classwar!
#JeremyHunt giving advice to #Fujitsu (you may recall something about their behaviour in the #Horizon IT situation) on how to get (more) government contracts.
Yup, no consequences for Fujitsu even as #postmasters lives have been ruined.
[you can finish off this post with your own choice of expletives]
Hey, #JeremyHunt... this is a real part of the #housingcriris - sub-standard housing - tinkering with #mortgage deposits to stoke house price #inflation will do nothing to address this problem...
We have a lot of rubbish housing that people (often renters) are being forced to live in, while you & your #landlord refuse to improve r maintain dwellings properly.
What we need is an enforceable landlords' duty to maintain alongside a better insulation scheme for owners.
Given the wreckage already caused by Hunt & his predecessors this must be the final nail in coffin of any idea that the #Tories have any interest in the well-being of the country.
He would be hard pushed to stoop lower than trying to bribe #Voters with money he's stealing from them in the coming years to undermine the services they need!
The #IMF has warned #JeremyHunt against #taxcuts & suggested he needs to rebuild the devastated (my word not theirs) #publicsector... but before you get all warm & fuzzy about the IMF, they also agree the BoE should maintain its #interestrates policy... so don't be confusing a pragmatic desire to see the public sector 'repaired' with any notion they're on the side of #workers struggling with high interest rates & #enforcedpoverty!
