People need to stop worrying about what #Hasbro#WotC is doing to #DnD. #RPG, at its core, is a very simple thing: rules, dice, paper, pencils, people, time and space, and a lot of snacks and beverages.
The genre transcends its progenitor. Your rules need to govern how to describe a character, how to describe the environment, how to resolve conflicts, and how to handle rewards/progression/improvement. All of it can be and in fact is made up.
I've been reading up on #ChangelingTheDreaming lore for my #HunterTheReckoning campaign, and whose fucking idea was it to make the entire setting run on fridge horror? Stg this happy fairy game is going to give me nightmares tonight the way #vtm never could
Ich finde Baldur‘s Gate 3 bis jetzt ziemlich gut. Es läuft flüssig und, was viel wichtiger (für mich, jedenfalls), out-of-the-Box unter Linux ohne Probleme.
Allerdings würde ich gerne wissen, wer den Entwicklern bei der Generierung der Origin-Charaktere beratend zur Seite gestanden hat. Die Werteblöcke sind ja teilweise sowas von suboptimal, da bin ich froh, dass man frühzeitig respecen kann.

My question about your favorite quests in a RPG-ish game wasn't rhetorical or meant sarcastically. I am genuinely interested in what you think makes an interesting quest with examples.
Ich surfe gerade über den Webshop von https://www.thearcanelibrary.com und da stehen Produkt-Kategorien wie "5E Adventures" und inzwischen habe ich herausgefunden dass wohl D&D5 gemeint ist, aber wenn ich nicht gerade selbst WotC bin, dann täte man meiner Meinung nach gut daran das dran zu schreiben, es gibt sicher Dutzende Rollenspiele, die es bis zu einer fünften Edition geschafft haben.
Wenn es wenigstens in den Produktbeschreibungen stünde…

So in the Mage: The Ascension #tabletop#RPG setting, as in the other World of Darkness settings, the “sleepers” are largely unaware of magic or that the technology that trickles down from the vastly more advanced technocracy is really the current reality-compatible paradigm of magic… which makes me wonder: what about people who, like in the real world, study and practice magic even though it does not have reality-altering effects and only directly affects the practitioner’s state of mind? Do the Traditions belittle them? Do they try to discourage them from drawing attention to magic? Do they see them as future hopefuls that should be encouraged so that they might one day “awaken”?
Well, it needs "…at least six 6-sided dice…" so clearly the system isn't Fate. Not sure I'm interested enough in the property to commit to trying a new system.

A friend and I love in depth games but want to include our families, some younger and some not super drawn to scifi or fantasy....
