“..the incredible story of how a young and talented indio from Badoc, Ilocos Norte became one of the greatest painters of his time in Spain and France, the centers of the art world. Luna’s is an undeniably heroic tale of the colonized subject conquering Europe on its own terms, right at the moment of Filipino nationalistic reckoning.”
Good read on #JuanLuna’s artwork. #art#history#philippines#TootSEA https://vogue.ph/lifestyle/art/juan-luna-martin-arnaldo-film-hymen-oh-hymenee/
Losing my mind over the fact the Philippines wants to become a “major liquefied natural gas player” despite the lack of an abundant source of natural gas deposits in the territory, or that LNG/fossil gas has considerable greenhouse gas emissions (particularly methane). If you didn't know, the Malampaya gas field is steadily being depleted.
We are never going to get sensible climate/energy policy are we.
Pura Luka Vega, a drag queen performer, is arrested by the police for criminal charges for dressing in drag Jesus Christ while playing ”Ama Namin“ (”Our Father,” the Lord's Prayer). They cooperated with the indictment but the court threw them an arrest for not showing up for preliminary investigation despite the subpoena not being delivered to their person or lawyer.
We have to remember nga that to be Queer is to be criminalized. It doesn't matter how open our society is, or how Queer people celebrate spirituality, the very fact of the Queer, the divergent, the strange, the deviant, the different, the other, is to be criminalized by the ruling order. Criminalization has always mean the those that deviate from the norm are deemed criminal.
Remember that Stonewall was a riot, that the Queer has always been crimnalized. Queer liberation will necessarily mean the #abolition of criminalization, police, and prisons.
The Philippine Local Laws and Ordinances Digitization Project sounds pretty great. It's getting local laws into Commons and #Wikisource. #Wikimania#Philippines
Last month, Quezon City blazed the trail for LGBTQIA+ rights when it launched The Right to Care Card.
With the viral reaction to the card, I talked to Adrian de Guzman to know the two-year journey to making this program a reality. #philippines#news#lgbtq
I'm not even sure I have the words for this — actress Beauty Gonzalez proudly wore a necklace made of ancient funerary gold. Eye and mouth covers. From the Philippine south. Actual archaeological pieces. Do they want to explain how these pieces came to be in the possession of a random jeweler? Do they really not see any issue with turning funerary gold into this? I've included a photo of similar funerary ornaments for reference.
Dear fellow #fedizens, especially #filipino ones - please take time to sign the petition against fossil fuel expansion in the center of marine biodiversity Verde Island Passage. We need to protect what's left of our #biodiversity.
"#BULACAN, #Philippines – When the tide comes in and the roads of the coastal town of #Hagonoy in Bulacan are again flooded, locals turn to the trusty #tikling for their mode of travel.
No, this tikling is not the avian kind which can be seen in rice paddies. Tikling is what Hagonoy locals christened the modified version of #tricycles that are high enough to wade through their flooded streets." #Floods

During a visit to a marketplace, looking for local delicacies, I chanced upon this. The translation app said it's "crispy rice crust" , and in the #Philippines , these are never commercially sold, and are the unwanted (?) by-product of cooking rice on a stove.
