Today's workout was the definition of workout suffering. High humidex, offset a bit by some light rain that didn't seem to help. My last full KM was 5:48/km, as I really wanted to get out of being outside.
Did spot my first snapping turtle about to lay eggs.
I'm pretty sure Kim (and Bakari) are trying to kill me in HITT. 🤣
I’m really proud of my restraint commenting on #ottawa Reddit but my fucking god these “I’m a cyclist and all you other cyclists are breaking the law and therefore all the mad drivers are justified in wanting to kill us” posts are going to be the end of me. Goddamn these in particular make me so ragey. Yes, fine, be kind to people also not driving but I do not care what you do to make yourself safer. Period. Another day of doing the outside portion of my workout first to try and avoid the heat.
Getting home hot and sweaty then having to workout more is not very appealing. 🤔

Reminder that the city of #ottawa likes to unilaterally decide when summer starts and ends. Has Britannia Beach been packed for weeks already? Did a 9-yr old just die? Yes. Will this change the city’s approach to funding how the city operates in an era where it’s much warmer for longer? No probably not. Changed the order today as it's already oppressively hot out for me. I’m wrecked by the end of the workouts. Starting with the running really burns me out.

Biked by Britannia Beach today with 2 fire trucks, 5 cop cars and 3 paramedic vehicles all lights and sirens blaring. Apparently a neighbourhood kid is in critical condition after presumably being found unresponsive in the water. Fuck I hate this. It’s so common and yet so easy to avoid and I’ll stake my claim that the beach is one area where phones should just be banned. It takes no time for shit like this to happen with aspirated water in the lungs #ottawa#drowning#kids
This isn’t a shit on other parents / holier than thou from me. I’ve sat at the beach. I’ve watched others for a long time at the beach. And I’ve used my phone while sitting at the beach, though our kid doesn’t swim there. 30 secs isn’t that long. What’s 45 seconds right? It’s like driving and using a cellphone. Walking thru my 'hood, I see a new #coffeeShop emerging. Still step ladders and paint buckets but should be close.
A long-standing #Bridgehead coffee shop closed across the street as that little local chain got bought out by a big corp. They seem to be shrinking as per big corporate modus operandi.
Hope this new one is decent. Wish it were indie, but that name sounds franchisey.
Followup to this earlier post – That new #Wesboro#coffeeshop opened up last weekend, we heard, and I've popped in twice while walking by just to check out the vibe.
Friendly staff, a small but broad selection of pastry and cake items, and nice decor. No WiFi apparently, but big windows so should be able to toot your visit via your mobile ok.
