In the lead up to #ALTA2024, we're highlighting excellent talks and papers from previous ALTA events.
Here, listen to a #Keynote presentation from #ALTA2023 by Professor Heng Ji from #UniversityOfIllinois Urbana-Champaign, speaking to the #SmartBook - an #AI prophetess for disaster reporting and forecasting.
In this insightful talk, Professor Heng shows us how #NLP techniques provide better decision making tools.
Totally hooked on Professor @aquigley#keynote at #EverythingOpen today - it's all about #interfaces and #HCI - and about #sensors - and how they can be used for secondary purposes to those originally designed - and at the end of the day we are all #human - and this limits the attention we have for input.
Super interesting!
Paper references are on Prof Quigley's Google Scholar:
I love #presenter by @ia, but I think the documentation for creating custom themes could be improved. So I went ahead and did just that, hoping that it'll help someone to get started:
Software with different features on different platforms make it super clear right off that some stuff isn't available.
If #Keynote for MacOS has more options than Keynote for iPad, iPhone or iCloud, you should be able to easily understand how different it is without having to dig through Apple support forums to implicitly discover.
I don't mind that it's different, just make it easy to figure out what's different so I'm not wasting time looking for a feature that doesn't exist on my version.
Lo interesante es que la mayoría se cargan automáticamente cuando se necesitan. Si es necesario cargarlos explícitamente, se puede hacer con \require{}.
His keynote will focus on "Intelligent Interfaces", where he explores new forms of #interaction enabled by #sensing technologies such as sound, light, electric fields, radio waves and #BioSignals.
So excited!! Catching the @outreachy@fosdem#keynote to celebrate 1,000 interns! A huge milestone, both for this and also the three continents represented on the main stage! I'm not sure if the four organizers have all shared the same stage before. 🤩 @karen@anna@sphakos
The Outreachy story is also closely tied to the @fedora story, with the origins in @gnome Outreach Program for Women.
Kids!
We're delighted to announce our second #Keynote Speaker for #EverythingOpen - Jana Dekanovska!
Jana is a well-known #infosec analyst, with a particular interest in the intersection of #AI and threat #intelligence, and is a Strategic Threat Advisor at #CrowdStrike.
Very long-shot request here... but does anyone have an original VHS rip of the Seybold New York keynote by Steve Jobs? The MP4 available on archive.org has some nightmarish codec issues, and the only version on YT is 144p.
Even if it's not a first-generation rip, I'm sure we can do better than this 😮
Sorry for all the hashtags here, trying to get a little exposure on this.
Dear #Tech Industry folks, for god’s sake practice your speech with your hands clasped behind your back. This #Keynote Hands thing is getting out of control.
This article from @jsnell at @sixcolors is spot on! If you are getting started on a #Mac, especially if you are coming from #Microsoft#Windows, don’t install anything! Chances are it’s built in and you don’t need an app at all! The defaults are what I use for the majority of my workflow and they work exceptionally well! And I agree, the Mac needs a clipboard manager! https://apple.news/APFeqn2R-OfyGIxDw5qWu8A
@jsnell@sixcolors A couple of my favorite best kept #Mac secret defaults are:
-Don’t install #Adobe, just use #Preview
-No need to install #Microsoft#Office, just use iWork (#Pages, #Numbers, #Keynote)
-#FaceTime can do what most conferencing apps do, no need for #Zoom or #Teams, including scheduling meetings and sharing screens
-The built in #Dictionary app is crazy helpful and useful, especially if you can’t connect to the internet for a quick word lookup.
🚀 Exciting news! I just launched Subtitlo for #macos: a game-changer for presentations. 🎤✨ This app overlays live subtitles on #Keynote/#Powerpoint, ensuring everyone in your audience catches every word. Perfect for inclusive, accessible presentations!
Tomorrow I'll deliver my ACM Distinguished Lecture "The Cognitive Paradigm in the Artificial Intelligence Research", sponsored by @ACM, @ IJCLR 2023, 3rd International Joint Conference on Learning & Reasoning (IJCLR) held in Bari: https://ijclr2023.di.uniba.it/~ijclr2023/
