Donations have been steady so it's been easy to stay calm but my situation is just as urgent as ever. I will be homeless this winter if I can't get housing, and I can't get housing with the amount of my disability cheque I pay in debt management. I need help. I need donations. Please
How Paris wants to overhaul urban planning to meet climate and housing targets.
The Paris Council debate today on the city's urbanism rules covering the next decades. The left-wing coalition plans to continue developing public housing, but there is now an even greater priority: adapting the French capital to rising temperatures.
Erin McAleer, chief executive of Project Bread, explicitly said as much to the Globe: “Folks who make minimum wage and work 40 hours a week — they come home with $2,000 a month. Forget food. You can’t really afford much else but your apartment.”
The market isn't solving Greater Boston's housing crisis. Incentives and mandates aren't steering developers hard enough, either. I think only large-scale social housing development can solve this. Do we even have the tools to get to that? #housing
Better idea, transfer ownership of appropriate buildings into a crown corporation and renovate them to provide non-market housing, a significant need in the housing crisis we’re facing.
Toronto mayoral hopeful Brad Bradford, who's known for his deep ties to former mayor John Tory, is insisting that #Toronto's housing crisis can be traced to the "failed policies" of the city's last progressive mayor David Miller... who was elected 20 years ago.. and not the policies of recent former mayors Rob Ford and John Tory.
@PatrickoftheG
For starters, Brad Bradford's wife is Kathryn Randle who is Vice Chair of BILD = the Building Industry and Land Development Association who in turn are very vocal cheerleaders of Doug Ford's #Bill23 aka "pave over the #greenbelt with mansions" plan.
Reminder that Bradford is the Chair of Toronto's Planning & Housing committee. Randle is also a registered lobbyist, and associated with the Rockport Group..a condo developer.
In place of NIMBYism and YIMBYism, we need to articulate a Housing Luddism.
Contrary to common belief, the luddites were neither pro- nor anti-tech. They questioned not what the tech did or how efficiently it did it, but who the tech did it to and for.
You want to increase housing density? We need to know who's going to live there and who's going to be displaced before we say yes or no. #housing#yimby#nimby
You can always correctly criticize #corporations for being greedy, even when prices are falling.
The idea that prices increased because corporations got greedier is nonsense. Corporations are always infinitely #greedy and trying to raise prices. If they didn’t, their executives and shareholders would consider it malpractice.
When prices go up, the difference (except supply shock) is that consumers continue to buy when sellers test higher #prices, rather than walk away
@Azuaron
Where there's a monopoly, the seller is a price-setter and the buyer is a price-taker. So were there far fewer monopoly markets prior to the current inflationary period, and then several markets became monopolies at that moment?
A lot of current (last ~year to now) #inflation is driven by leisure spending: airfare, restaurants, bars, hotels, events, etc.
You could not eat... out
But when it comes to #housing, there's a real supply shortage there, and some hoarding too
I’m so sad to hear that a domestic violence shelter in #Massachusetts has to close its doors. And I get it - as someone who used to run DV shelters, it’s really hard to operate such a program safely with the funding that’s available.
But let’s think about the implications of this. A shelter in MA is shutting down in the midst of a #housing crisis that feels unsolvable. 1/x
Please toot! Really struggling with my anxiety right now, raising money is just not going to plan and my housing fears for winter have been exacerbated. I cannot stress how desperately I need people to share and donate to my campaign because it’s literally my only chance to be housed this winter
"To American eyes, the whole Viennese setup can appear fancifully socialistic. But set that aside, and what’s mind-boggling is how social housing gives the economic lives of Viennese an entirely different shape.”
"This year's Forbidden Courses entail advanced inquiries into science & religion, race, gender politics, Anglo-American grand strategy, our moral judgements, debates within conservatism, and the state of evolutionary biology."
What's written on the black board in this promotional photo-- is this forbidden knowledge?
"Modern narratives of moral change are an excuse for failure."
