The #Republican effort to impeach President #JoeBiden has completely blown up in their faces. Their crucial, bombshell witness was discovered to be a #Russian asset whose fabricated allegations against the President were fed to him directly by #RussianIntelligence with the intention that they would be laundered through #HouseRepublicans. So, a historic effort to remove a sitting US president was being driven by one of our greatest adversaries.
The interview of the president’s brother comes a day after #HouseRepublicans’ star witness, a fmr #FBI informant, was charged w/providing false info about #POTUS & Hunter during the 2020 pres campaign, incl’g info from #RussianIntelligence.
As funding for #Ukraine faces an uncertain future in #Congress, the #US#Army has been left to foot the bill for hundreds of millions of dollars in support for Ukraine’s #war effort against #Russia over the last few months — & Army ofcls are increasingly concerned that w/o new funding, they will have to begin pulling money from other critical projects to continue supporting Kyiv.
Since Oct 2023, the beginning of the fiscal year, the #Army has spent >$430M on various ops, including training & troops, transporting equipment, & #UnitedStates troop deployments to Europe.
“We’re basically taking it out of hide in the Army,” a snr Army official told CNN.
So far, that bill has been paid from the Army’s #Europe & #Africa Command.
If #Congress still hasn’t passed new funding for #Ukraine w/in a few months, #Army ofcls say they will have to start making hard decisions & divert money from less critical projects, such as badly needed barracks construction or enlistment incentives amid record-low recruiting.
If the Army doesn’t pull funds from elsewhere, Army #Europe & #Africa’s ~$3B budget would run out of money for ops not just related to Ukraine, but elsewhere in Europe & Africa, by the end of May….
“If we don’t get a base budget, if we don’t get #Ukraine supplemental [funding package], if the government shuts down, if we get nothing else & nothing changes from today … we will run out of [operations & maintenance] funding in May,” the #UnitedStates#Army ofcl said. Those ops include training exercises for forces in #Europe & #Africa & equipment moving into the theater. Contracts also wouldn’t be #paid on time & would garner penalty fees.
House impeaches #DHS Secy #AlejandroMayorkas, succeeding on 2nd try, in a rebuke of #Biden’s #immigration policy. The resolution is non-binding, however, & may not go very far in the #Senate bc even some #Republicans don’t believe that Mayorkas’s actions clear the bar for the high crimes & misdemeanors necessary for conviction.
Every mention of this story should include the fact that the House Republicans, who are pretending to care about border security, are simultaneously refusing to vote for border security.
#House & #Senate Republicans have denigrated fellow lawmakers, #Biden admin officials & witnesses in #racist ways, both in casual comments & in official settings.
Around the same time, #HouseRepublicans released their report on #impeachment charges against #AlejandroMayorkas, the #Cuban-born #DHS secy who is the first #Latino to lead his dept. Using unusually loaded language for a cmte report, the panel described its action as “deporting Secretary Mayorkas from his position.”
Voters head to the polls tomorrow in the election pitting Tom Suozzi, a #Democrat, against Mazi Pilip, who is running as a #Republican. The race is considered a tossup.
The special #House election tomorrow pits #MaziPilip, a little-known Nassau County legislator who is running as a #Republican, against #TomSuozzi, a #Democrat & fmr 3-term congressman. Pilip — who was born in Ethiopia & served in the #IDF before coming to the #UnitedStates — is still registered as a Democrat. Early voting ended on Sunday.
The race has drawn wider attention as a proxy fight for many of the most important issues dividing Washington & the nation. The outcome could affect the strained dynamics in the #House, where #Republicans hold a 219-to-212 majority. Both parties are looking to this race for an early read on which issues, & which messages, might matter most in November.
Special counsel Robert Hur's report on the investigation into the mishandling of Obama-era #ClassifiedDocuments at 2 locations
connected to President Joe #Biden has been delivered to #Congress.
The report is expected to go into significant detail about what the special counsel's office found in its investigation.
Hur's team is not planning to bring criminal charges, but the report could provide fodder for Biden's #political opponents.

Even before seeing its contents, lawmakers on both the right — &, to a lesser extent, the left — flanks in #Congress have slammed the measure & #House#Speaker#MikeJohnson (R) called it “dead on arrival” in the chamber. #Trump, who has made the #border a core campaign issue, [& wants to keep it an unsolved issue] opposes the deal.
#Senate Majority Leader Chuck #Schumer (D) announced that he would hold the first procedural vote on the #legislation on Wed, leaving the bill’s boosters little time to sell its provisions. “Senators must shut out the noise from those who want this agreement to fail for their own #political agendas,” he said in a statement Sunday evening.
“Everything would have been 180° different if Beau had lived — there’s no question,” said one close associate of the family who like others spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss private family matters. “I don’t think Hunter’s life goes off the rails. If Beau wasn’t president of the United States now, he’d be on his way to it. And Joe Biden would never have been president. He would be happily retired.”

It’s the latest step in a larger #House#GOP probe into whether or not Willis used federal funds as part of her investigation into #Trump….
“Any examination of the records of our grant programs will find that they are highly effective & conducted in cooperation w/the DOJ & in compliance w/all DOJ requirements," #FaniWillis added.
