I have a Ko-fi (pronounced co-fee) page! You can make donations if you like my contributions to the world of #ForestGarden#gardening & #horticulture, and my part in the downfall of capitalism
Potted up our money plant into the new pot I got for my birthday. As it was outside thought I'd give it a gentle spray with the sprinkler and it went from a dull grey to vibrant green and russet brown!
Mark grew it from a cutting 25ish years ago, still going strong. (I say grew, but basically you just need to let the leaves that fall off sit on top of compost and hey presto another plant - I have plenty of baby versions if anyone wants one) #plants#houseplants#gardening#horticulture
I'm all for native plants and the reduction of invasives (ideally by them becoming food for something?), while also trying to operate from respect and understanding of non-native species. They didn't choose to be cultivated and domesticated in a foreign environment, or to end up as a seed on a truck or cargo ship traveling to a different climate/continent. This is a new frame for me, so I'm working on practicing it in reality — though there are cultures that have been integrating it, e.g. these perspectives and research from
Nicholas Reo and Laura Ogden.
"Daisugi is on its way to becoming a lost #art. Production of Kitamaya timber has steadily declined since the C15th... The process makes for an otherworldly picture... a practical solution to meet increasing demand for timber has also become appreciated for its sculptural beauty & structural role in #gardens..."
Tia Merotto considers the potential of traditional #Japanese tree propagation in the latest article published in Signifier:
I have opened 50 registrations for the Elsica.Social instance. The site needs some further polish but is ready for you to explore. Elsica.Social is your cosy home in the fediverse with a mild thematic focus on #botany, #nature, #wildlife, #horticulture, #bio and #earth#sciences, nature #photography, #exploring and #travel. If you know Latin names of random #plants, get up at 3 a.m. to walk into remote valleys to take #landscape#photos, spend all day in your #garden, like reading #science books or watching the latest #documentary about the #birds of Patagonia, you will feel at home here.
Alt: 3 colour photos of two blooms on a stem. The petals are an agreeable pastel orange with many mahogany spots, fully recurved, prominent same coloured stamens and pistil with brown pollen.
@redcrew Can someone in like..official #Horticulture circles please start renaming common names for north american plants so they don't include words like "weed"? Like "Joe Pye Weed" should just be "Joe Pye Flower", milkweed should be like "Monarch Flower", etc.
#Bumblebees are visiting the #allium#flowers quite frequently today as it’s dry again. It’s still quite #breezy and the stalks are swaying quite a bit in the #wind.
