"Texas can secede if that's what it's voters want."
If Texas secedes:
•Texas loses $68.2B in Federal aid
•GOP loses 2 US Senate seats, Dems lose 0
•GOP loses 27 US House seats, Dems lose 11
•Dems win permanent control of US House, US Senate, & White House.
Don't let the door hit you in the ass, texas. Your failed power grid, LOL!
China has built massive amounts of wind and solar capacity over the past decade. Its power grid couldn't always keep up, leading to significant curtailment. But now, despite a further acceleration in capacity additions*, the grid has caught up too, reducing curtailment to just a few percent. Impressive!
Looks like Oregon seeing some power outages this morning. 157,824 without power there. Texas is on the map, but only 12,335 customers out at the moment. https://poweroutage.us#PolarVortex#power#grid
Puget Sound Energy: "We are asking customers to conserve natural gas and electricity use through the evening hours. Due to the extreme cold temperatures facing our area, regional utilities are experiencing higher energy use than forecasted, and we need to reduce strain on the grid. Puget Sound Energy: "This evening, we’re asking customers to set their thermostats at a lower setting and limit the use of hot water, such as dishwashing or clothes washing, dryers and other appliances.

Message from yesterday: "OCN issued for the predicted extreme cold weather event for the ERCOT Region Monday, January 15,2024 through Wednesday, January 17, 2024" #extremecold#Texas#grid
"The amount of #RenewableEnergy development being planned for deployment on the #ERCOT#grid dwarfs new developments in natural gas and coal-fired power plants.
As of November, the ERCOT grid has seen no interest from developers in building coal plants and fewer than 15.5 gigawatts (GW) of natural gas plants. In contrast, there’s interest in building more than 32.5 GW of wind power, more than 142 GW of solar power and nearly 125 GW of battery storage."
I'm a bit obsessed with subgrid, it makes layouts so much more intuitive for me. I realized that I can now easily align siblings, and because I found this handy, I wrote a short article about it.
