Last night, I gave the annual #MarshallMcLuhan lecture at the #transmediale festival in #Berlin. The event was sold out and while there's a video that'll be posted soon, they couldn't get a streaming setup installed in the Canadian embassy, where the talk was held:

⭕ Do you know gail.com❓
In '96, a woman named Gail got this as a birthday gift from her husband. Now, Gail's website is buzzing with traffic due to people misspelling #gmail.
Ironically, Gail is a proud #ProtonMail user. 💀
Here's why: https://proton.me/mail/proton-mail-vs-gmail
I'm embarrassed to admit that I still have a GMail account I actively use. In my defence, I set it up for dealings with officialdom back when Goggle still supported open standards (ie before they dropped XMPP suport in their chat services). I still use it for that mainly due to paralysis by analysis. What to replace it with?
Can anyone recommend a privacy-respecting email provider that hosts services for kiwis in a NZ-owned datacentre?

I've decided to give @fastmail a try and see what it's all about.
While I'm happy with Gmail, I'd like to move away from it for various reasons. The main reason being to have a new email address where I hopefully don't get as much spam. I've had my Gmail account since the first day invites were a thing.
I'd like to try and hide my email address a bit better if at all possible.
I'm currently testing the free version. Not sure if the paid version is for me.
Occasionally someone sends me an enormous image in an email. Instead of scaling these to the width of the window, gmail displays them at full size with a horizontal scrollbar at the bottom. Does anybody know how to fix this?
(I could change the browser zoom level, but that makes the text tiny.)
Emails like promotions, recovery codes and other messages which have no value after a short period of time should come with an expiration date so they can automatically be deleted. Or simply mark them as transient so I can purge any which are a week old. It would save so much storage. #Email#Gmail
My Gmail was getting pretty full and I was being warned about having to pay to exceed the free capacity. Since I know I get a ton of unwanted email I was not willing to start paying to be spammed. So I found that I could filter to all Promotions and delete several at a time and spent a few minutes clearing a bunch but only got back about a month in that short time. At least I am now under the limit that triggers the warning.
Anyone know of a way to automatically clear out all emails which match a filter? #Gmail
Back in the day, #Gmail had this function where it you received an email (newsletter...) with a date/time, you could (highlight that part and) create a calendar entry automatically for that point in time, and with the email subject as the #calendar title.
Of course, Gmail has been #enshittified to the point where this function/workflow is no longer available.
But is there any other email client/calendar combo out there that still has this function?
